And that's when I stopped paying attention to them.

  11. On the other hand, the new generation was a logical step in the evolution of the class, just like the early-mid '30s, full-fendered cars were replaced by the lighter and better-through-the-wind Willys and Anglias. These were faster (better aero) and people could relate to them -- I saw Mustangs, Camaros and Barracudas on the streets, not Willys, Studebakers, and Anglias.

Not necessarily better, but not necessarily worse. Diff'rent strokes...

And the fact that the big three were sponsoring the Gassers, probably had a little to do with it too. They weren't trying to sell "old cars".

I never tried to "relate" a gas class car to what I saw on the street...:)

Rick, There was a step in between in the gasser classes. Jim Kirby remembers the Revell car to be #24 or #25 in his line of gasser builds. He remembers my car to be #13 or #14 and you can see that the front end is much lower. The quality of fab ideas and welds was getting better, even considering how quickly these cars went together.
Also notice that this version of Skip's Mustang is significantly higher than in later days.

Great pics of your dad's 62. He ran some really great numbers. You may want to post over in one of the Corvette gasser threads or the Corvette hot rod thread. It appears to have run altered which is pretty cool. I have a similar car (61 with the straight axle, same front wheels with no brakes and it ran a BBC tunnel ram as well-except mine has a chopped top, built by Larry Teter in Elgin Illinois). Any pictures of the build and front suspension etc? PM me if you want and I will forward some pics if you like. May humor your dad while he waits for that piece of fiberglass-Jim

Nothing like the wheel standing pictures but a picture of my brothers X/F dragster at MoKan in 1963, ran a 194 ci Pontiac out of a Tempest. The car ran in the low 10's and 130 mph.The motor was one bank of a 389, Mickey Thompson also ran one. The Buick hearse in the background was his tow car. He is the one in the T-shirt in the picture of the trailer, built the car while in college.

Cool man you got any more pictures of your brothers car. Been seeing lots or Hot Rods with these 195s for power. I have a friend that runs one in his drag car, blown no less.

Very cool. I would like to see those pics. I will see what he has for front end pics. Not sure what classes he ran in but remember him saying the car had to have the original frame rails.
