Hello out their.......Well I found a couple of cars for a new winter project on a budget.....first up 1953 Chevy two door 150 next 1949 Fleetline, both supposedly run. Look to be about the same condition.Going to try and get out tomorrow to look at them.My plan would be to leave the engine as it is just update the brakes convert over to 12 volt, chop the top and lower the suspension nothing fancy.Remeber BUDGET....LOL.......I guess my question is which car has more replacement parts ,is easy to work on ect......I really don't know much about these kinda cars......any help would be greatly appreciated .
I like the loooong sleek look of a chopped and lowered Fleetline with a fat azz......thanks for the input guys.I just joined this forum a week ago and I can't stay off here, theirs a lot of good info on here.
1949 Fleetline would be my preference of the two body stlyles. But a harder chop if you intend on chopping yourself, not sure what your skill set is. Drivelines would be similar with lots of replacement parts available for both.
so, what is the rush to buy a Winter project - after looking at both cars and you find problems with them there are plenty waiting out there.
Yeah. Go to the top of this page, on the black band, click on Community, then Members. Find ems customer service, contact him about what's available for either of these two Chevys. Later, Kinky6
parts are available for both, cost the same, forget a budget you will always go way over it. i think guys spend to much on motors, not enough on front disk brakes, wheels can be pricy so some restraint here is good, forget the chop to much time money and glass work, a good 4.3v6 or 4.8 v8 you will go plenty fast, you could leave the springs alone and go with 14" wheels and it will lower it but i have 15's on my 53 and its low for being normal. www.emsautomotive.com for body parts i assume your in michigan, cars inc is a dealer, but they dont keep much in stock the ems guy
both are cool, cost about the same, and once you get them low you may rethink the chop (saving a lot of time and money)
Fleetlines look great, but chopping one and getting the back looking right will thak a lot of planning. Bob
Thanks for the feed back guys. Just came back from looking at a 50 Fleetline four door,it neede a lot more work then I wanted to tackle .Price wasn't bad $1000 or best offer, probably could have got it for $700 ........I will just keep looking.
Fleetlines are great! Hold out for a two-door and maybe shoot for a '51 or '52 (longer ass end = sleeker and less "volvo-y". My .02
The '49 Fleet would be my choice (a future project for me) and they look sooo good laying on the deck. If you bail on the roof chop then it's not a big deal. They look real good either way - spats, Appleton spots, Fulton visor etc. Can get a bit mexican lowrider though!
I saw an article somewhere a few years back, where Bill Hines and Brad Masterton (sorry if the spelling incorrect) chopt a 49. Check the search function maybe.
Yes pics....I think the Fleetline is a cooler car....dress that stock engine....could be a real cool ride...Check the baby blue one from the Rodder's Journal a few issues back....that'll motivate you...
