I am putting a 40 ford wheel on a F1 column. What have some of you used for a bell at the end of the column. And NO I dont have access to a 1940 truck column. Would love to see what different ideas are out there. Thanks

Use 1 1/2 inch exhaust tube, have the muffler shop flare it out to your specs!

  3. 40 wheels are tapered key, F-1's are splined....

Thanks, I am planning on welding a keyed tip on the F1 shaft to fit the 40 wheel

  6. You will have to do some measuring but I remember reading somewhere about using a aluminum bowl from Wally World. HRP

You can use a 40-47 truck column, the 42-47 ones are longer and can be out of up to a 1.5 to 2 ton truck. Remember you have to have a bushing or bearings at the upper end, unless you are using a column shift. I got lucky and found a 41 pickup column shift model, a rare piece to find, for my 40 pickup.

I cut down a plastic coffee cup. I epoxied it to the tube. It had the right diameter at both the top and bottom. It has been there for 40 years!

I just got a late 50s built car; they used the trumpet end of an antique car horn, welded it onto the tube, then chromed the whole column.
