This was by no means all - there were a couple of tired old beaters in the museum too....

Here are a few more shots of the woodie for HRP. This belongs to my Dry Cleaner and sometimes it has been parked out front of the business on a Saturday morning. It has been in his family for over thirty years and is a beautiful wagon. I sold my genuine Willys woodie project a couple of years ago to a Willys owner on the East Coast who is restoring it to stock.

If anyone wants me to post shots of any other Willys that was there, I have now sorted out my Photobucket issues. It was a great night as usual and there were plenty of non Willys cars there including two genuine 427 Cobras - worth a cool million for the pair at least!

Non Willys but here are the Cobras. A correction to my above reference. this one is 289 powered and having the wide body of the 427 that would make it a coil spring 289 Mk III. I believe there were only 15 of this model made. The VIN tag is a genuine AC tag - CSX prefix chassis numbers were for the US, COX prefix numbers for the U.K.

Now back to the Willys - engine shot of Steve Jarvis's beautiful 1941 pickup and below some of the extensive real gold leaf lettering....

Great photo's thanx for sharing! Two questions if you would? Did all coupes, 37 to 42, have a tail pan piece, and two separate pieces between the rear fenders? These separate pieces were where the tail lights were mounted. Also, what kind of front wheels are on the Jerry Mallcoats coupe?

Tail pan was always three piece but many have filled the two join seams to smooth them. The tailpan is rounded. Many of the 'glass bodies have flatter tailpans (and sharply peaked front fenders below the headlights) which follow the angle of the rear fender. I think this started with Outlaw and then everybody and his brother bought a body from Outlaw and pulled their own molds. This is one of the dead giveaways of a glass body, along with the quarter panels behind the door being molded as one piece with the rockers. I have noticed that on several Willys that one tail light was mounted slightly higher than the other - my '40 coupe is like that and I decided to leave it that way for authenticity rather than try and make them even and level.

The front wheels on Jerry Mallicoat's coupe look to be Real Rodders Wheels bolt on faux 'spindlemounts'. They also offer a bolt from behind 'spindlemount' where there are no bolts on the street side. They look good but since during the main Gasser period cars had to run front brakes in the Gasser classes, spindlemounts would not have been used. Altereds did not have to run front brakes and spindlemounts were common in those classes....

Hey Steve don't sweat it - just not my bag as I don't think it does anything to improve what I perceive to be the perfectly balanced stock proportions of the coupe. But others like it, so peace man....;)

Just briefly to wander off from the event coverage - look at the shape of the correct tail pan from Lee Kay and compare with the flat and sharply cut off look of the black fiberglass car. A couple of the better 'glass bodies pulled off original cars have the rounded tail pan but many do not....

We're good Guido. Just some friendly ball busting.
Great show & a fun afternoon.
I was a little disappointed at how many of these cars came in on a trailer though.
