Very cool. Seems like you're making consistent progress.

Does your rate in the Navy by any chance help you with the metal and mechanical skills you obviously have?

Yea I'm an HT. We weld and do plumbing on the ship. I've gotten some weird looks from security carrying a sea bag full if parts on and off the ship to weld. I have a little wire feed welder in my garage, but nothing like I have on the ship.

I wanted to go with a spoon gas pedal, but spending 200 bucks on one just to cut it apart didn't seem like too great of an idea, so I made my own.

I used some 1/4 inch rod, a small piece of 1/4 inch plate for the spoon, some 1/2 inch pipe, some 1/8 plate, and some random bits of hardware. I also used an 1/8 inch piece of rod to extend the factory linkage. Here's what I ended up with.

I'll post more pics in a day or so. I have to take it off and weld the pedal to the rod. I wasn't 100% on the angle before everything was fitted up. I also think I'm going to add a zirc fitting.

I decided to take it off tonight.

I used shaft stops for the ends and put a slight radius in the spoon part of the pedal.

It's a modified 38 I believe. It clears by like a half inch.

sweet little roadster you´re building there.

Can you post some info on the triming you did to the F1-crossmember and dimensions of the position?
    thank you

  12. Car looked terrific on Saturday at the Joe Smith Early V8 Open House in Richmond. You caused quite a stir driving up in that thing. What a great vibe to the car. Congrats.

Here Chris and Joe Didio discuss the finer points of Model A building. Joe has one of the nicest nailhead-powered Model A coupe around. They were deep in discussion.

Chris got the attention of many of the old-timers, who thought the roadster really captured the vibe of so many cars that roamed the streets and highways of Virginia way-back-when.

Here's some more pics. I started to make a template for a hood.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1400025376.321869.jpg

Then I brought it into work and cut it out and rolled it.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1400025435.071962.jpg

I had to make some adjustments when I got it on the car but it fit pretty good.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1400025500.104579.jpg

    I polished it.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1400025564.804368.jpg

Then I brought it to jackandduces house and we started making holes in it.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1400025739.004893.jpg

Then it was time to get it attached to the car.

Replaced the grill and got a top irons kit. It's going to need a lot of modifying to sit the way I want it. I also picked up some leather to start doing the interior.

I want the top to be a lot lower. My plan is to straighten the bends and bend them at a tighter radius. It's one of the $300 kits off eBay. Seems like really nice quality. It could just be thrown on in about an hour if you were ok with the factory height.

I made some panels to cover the holes in the floor too. I still need one for the firewall. The good made it a lot hotter inside the car and this helped to cool it off a lot.

Why wouldn't you just move the top bend down the bracket about 2 1/2"? If that made sense?

You can't move them any lower because the bend hits the top flat bar of the folding mechanism.

I finished my seat and floor. This was my first time doing anything like this and I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I bought an old Morse 600 sewing machine and it handled the leather pretty well. The trim rings for the shifter and brake lever are just pieces of stainless I cut out and polished.
