Looking at an old GMC COE truck with vin # AFR622XI44. Can anyone make any sense of this or point me in the right directions. I've searched online and yielded nothing. The owner says its a 47. Its the big, commercial cab cabover that GMC made from 39-47. Thanks for the help.

    I question that V.I.N.

The reason is, my 40 has no letters, and only 4 numarical digits

It's not a 47. Watch counting cars his ramp truck is a 47 to54 style your's is earlier than that.

I think the GM, AD series trucks were introduced mid year in 1947. Both models were
on the market during model year 1947.

Come by either Just Old trucks or old gmc trucks.com
The bigger trucks of the 40's had letters in the serial #, I'm not very familar with those but some one on either of the two above mentioned forums should be able to help.

That serial number looks correct for the year. First letter "A" indicated 39-40.It's typical that many know nothing about year dating old trucks. And many titles have the wrong years, titled by the engine number rather than the seial number plate ,etc.
