Head bolts

Can anyone tell me if washers are required when you torque the head bolts on a 53 ford flathead?

 

If aluminum heads with studs, yes. If using bolts only then no.

Please no flame. If it is good enough for the Offy instructions it is good enough for me. JMKnight, Nut'n Fitz Hotrods. (big name, little shop)

 

I have a 36. Aluminum heads require washers under the head nuts, cast iron heads do not.
