Hello, first off I'd like to say I'm sorry. Their is probably another thread like this on the H.A.M.B but I could not find it. But anyways I've always wanted to restore a Model T so that it looks original but is fast and is more economical. Ok, well i know that I could just rat rod the t but i want it to not look out of the ordinary and look like a stock T with the hood and everything. What I mean by that is that it looks 100% stock but the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, you know the works, are completely upgraded. Basically the car would be the ultimate sleeper.

  2. Welcome, this should be your 2nd post ,you forgot your intro. I like the sound of what you want to do. Oh and don't us the R** Rod term here please. JW

Interesting approach. The "modified classic" thing is quite common with Morris Minors, not so much for the sleeper potential but because people want a classic car they can use regularly and so fit disc brakes, telescopic dampers, etc. You'll also find it in stuff like Jaguar Mk2s and MGBs.

The problem I see is that a lot of the stuff that limits a T's performance is quite visible. If you're looking to rival the performance of modern cars, you won't be able to hide for instance tyres and brakes entirely. It can be done with a great deal of subtlety, though.

However, take a look at hotrodfil's "1927 Mercury", a very happy blend of T and A, though not exactly a modern sports car. There is just a pervasive rightness about that car.

I think there has been a thread about this car here before, but a Finnish company named Makela Auto Tuning had built something along those lines, but that is a model A. An original restored -29 with drivetrain from a group 4 Escort BDA rally car. Not so much economical maybe, but...

Hey, thank you all for the input. I'm going to go ahead and start my search for an unrestored Model T. I took a look at what Makela Auto did and it seems it would not be too hard to convert that to a Model T.
