this is the de-coding for your heads

and the code for the engine casting numbers.

all this combined with the explanation on your carb it looks like you either have a 327 or a 350and the heads, block, and carb are all components used in the corvette but not necicarilly a corvette motor still a really good motor

The 461 and 462 heads have slots with rounded ends for each pushrod, which acts as a guideplate...Unfortunately it limits p.rod diameter to 5/16".

never knew there was a 010 327. Learn something every day.

Model T, can you at least turn the motor over and measure the piston travel? Would be a quick way to measure stroke length.

I have no problem measuring the stroke for those who are curious..or just for peace of mind, but I'm okay with leaving this as an understood 350.

This is why I am relying on you guys to tell me what this thing is, and I trust your judgement.

Then you and your neighbor both apparently have no sense of value!

  13. Definitely not a Chevy Fan, but I think you are a fool to scrap that, if indeed you did (my BS meter is flashing here). If you can't sell off a 350 chevy 4 bolt and make more than scrap rate on it, there is something wrong.

I would have given you scrap rate on it and resold it myself!

Did anyone notice the front engine mount? looks like 55-57 Chevy style.

"010" blocks are good old stuff from GM , No way of knowing which crank it has without taking the pan off. GM only made 1 year of large journal 327 cranks and it wasn't steel.

MrModelT, you don't need to appologize for this thread going into overtime. It's us who are continually adding our words of wisdom (?) And those of you complaining it has, stop writing comments and it won't be so long!:D
I still think it's a neat old Ford orange engine!

Slight correction on the carb. It is actually about 600 CFM and not 650, and was for '66 Corvette only with a 327/350 HP engine. Chevrolet never put a Holley on the 327/300 HP engine. To me the carb is probaly worth at least about $500 in it's current good original condition, minus the damage someone did by drilling a hole in and grinding on the air cleaner ring. Plus it looks like there was a phillips head screw in it to hold something on. Too bad for that part.

Good info Sal. I noticed that work too, not sure what the reason for it was either.

Thanks T1. Very true, but still....I should have had some better info by now for the guys that need it. Just hard to get over there and tear into that thing with a family and other "irons in the fire". For my "not so timely-ness" I apologize :)

Have never seen heads stamped left and right either. Someone definitely put some effort into it.
Someone needs to drop that into a 55 2dr post with a 4.11 and close ration trans :)

Someone on here has a GM LG 327 steel crank...
1969 was the last year of the 327...
LG 327 cranks were made in '68 and '69....
And let's not forget all the 307 crankshafts... From '68-'72???

That would be me, for one. I was actually going to go out in the shed and take a photo of it tonight, and post it. Whew! Thank god for the "wisdom" on the HAMB! I almost built a motor around an imaginary crank!:rolleyes:
And yes, '68 and '69 is correct. Boy, if Gene thought there was a lot of bullshit on that FE thread, he should come take a look at THIS mess!

FYI, cast cranks "ring" better than forged cranks do.

If the piston markings match the info someone found earlier in the thread, it's a

fire breathing SOB that can make even you and me read the WHOLE thread.

    Well, almost.

    Sounds like a 350...
Looks like you have a pair of angle plug heads also.... You need to take off a valve cover and snap a picture of the 7 digit casting numbers on the head then post it on here... Thanks!
