Guy I work with has the old picture in his office. CHP shut down the street and let them do burn outs that day
Service Center was the best place for speed parts. Larry Dixon Jr worked the one in Van Nuys early-mid 80's when I met him. We became really good friends after a short street race rivalry. Brad Lagman of QMP fame worked there too
Great pic! My cousin lived around the block from the Compton Service Center. We would hang out there in the late '60's on Saturdays, then head up the street and check out all the motorcycles at Custom City. Thanks for posting!
I was a store manager for store #29 which was the Orange Store on Tustin Avenue. I was there with Doug Herbert for a few years around 83'. Good times for sure. Sheldon was a great guy to work for.
Sweet Shel was really a great guy. The Sign Club room led to an area in the back that he let local car clubs use for meetings. I remember he a had a bunch of really cool plaques tacked up from long forgotten Car Clubs. Bought my very first speed parts there, he used to take layaways. Had some used parts including the infamous half speed roller. When Custom City caught fire and burned down it took the Service Center with it. I remember seeing the first Honda Cars for sale there . Anybody remember Dave's Home of Chrome up the street?
