I'm 66 and messing with traditional hot rods for about 20 years.Always had hot rod motorcycles and lately have been gravitating back to building "traditional" bikes. And there's there's that 4 wheel drive thing I have....

  10. I got into this hobby when I was 15 and I dragged my 55 Chevy home. I'm still fooling around with old cars at 57. Most of my hot rod buddies are my age or older although there are a few younger guys in the mix. Hot rodding has always gone through fazes. There was the street rod thing which still lives on, some good, some not so good, and now there is the rat rod thing which unfortunately also hangs on. Fads come and go but the traditional hot rod endures.

I was old when I was young. When all my buddies were into muscle cars I was still into hot rods. I drove a 56 Ford that I shared with my older sister, but the first car I owned when I was 17 in 1971 was a 40 Ford coupe that I bought from a salvage yard less engine and tranny. Then in 1972 came across an ex-B/Gas 41 Willys coupe body that I put a stroker 392 Hemi in. Various hot rods followed then a few muscle cars and Corvettes before I came back to reality with a 31 Model A coupe and a 39 Olds coupe wannabe gasser.

  25. Turned 70 this year. Bought my first street rod at 14, ('37 ford). Just finished a '55 210 post car, and building a '40 ford pickup at present. Took me until now to get a well equipped shop, wish i had another 56 years to enjoy it.

27, and on my 2nd and 3rd traditional cars already! Bought my first old car (won't name here, isn't old enough to mention! :) when I was 15 and fixed up with my dad. I was the oldest car in my highschool parking lot. Have loved every minute of it!

65 Very surprized at poll results, I don't see many younger people w/ cars at shows or cruises, granted, I now live in northern Wi., A retirement, tourist area. Sure glad to see younger people getting involved, always wondered what was going to happen 10-20-years down the road. I'm a 32 guy, my generation is muscle cars, Tri-5's, my first car 57 chev. Hey! Easy on over 65 guys! I'm 70 on this Sunday and still doing all the stuff I like and want to do.Drive my 32 a lot and ride my 64 triumph or my 54 matchless to coffee with the boys at 6:30 almost every morning. Most of the guys I hang out with are doing the same.
