Thinking about Firestone dirt track tyres on the 32 Rdstr I'm putting together at the moment, I'm looking at running '35 16'' wires, the only size listed are 890-16. Firstly will they mount up ok and size/proportion will they suit. Trying to stay away from the cartoonish look, if anyone has pics, please post away. Thanks, thommo. Here are the 16" Firestone dirt trackers on Jo Kerr's Model A. Nothing "cartoonish" about this car. I say go for it Thommo! .
i believe `35 Ford wire wheels are 4" wide , i'd have to agree that may be a bit narrow for those tires
Thanks for the replies, I checked the catalogue and they list rim size as 6-8.5'', I'm pretty set on having wires on this thing and don't really want to widen the rims. Dave, do you know if the rims have been widened on the coupe in the pic you posted? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
ive got the 8.20-18s on standard 18 inch '32 KH wires on my Tudor Thommo and havent had any issues with fitment
Jo runs stock '40 Ford wheels that are 4.5 wide with the 8.90 'Stones. On this rim, the tire is 8" wide at the widest part of the sidewall. I don't think the 1/2 difference on your wheels inch will hurt anything. .
I say go for it...this coupe was at Deuce day at the Peterson Museum...16x4 wheels with 8.90x16 Firestones...
I never had them on a car or never drove one with them on. But more than one person told me that had them said, they are not too great for driving long distances or friendly for street driving. Ago
I would tend to disagree with that. Jo Kerr's Model A that I posted above has been all over the place on those tires. From Austin to the Jalopy Showdown, and all points in between. Hell, in February 2012 Jo drove 6 hours in the rain from Indy to Detroit for Autorama. In fact, in a few weeks, he and I are driving our coupes six and a half hours from Indy to the Vintage Torquefest in Iowa. Do it Thommo .
Dave, consider it done, I've wanted dirt trackers on a car forever. Rhys, your Tudor is bitchin, the tyres(tires) make the package. Thanks to all posted Thommo Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I am, perhaps, interested to put the same on my A roadster. You have a good feeling for the road-holding? the braking ? and in the rain ?
You will love those tires... I've had the front runners on my coupe for a couple of years now and consider them the best "shorty" bias tires I've ever owned. Balanced perfectly and run smooth as glass...
