Why is the Aircan on this '50 Olds engine so large?

    Just wondering why GM put such a large aircan on the carb of this "50 Olds engine? [​IMG]

    No idea, but I do know it's supposed to be painted gloss black.

    Most likely for sound deadening.

    I painted it red on purpose to liven it up.

    Don't blame GM - blame the company that made the model you're working on. I'm pretty sure that there's no guarantee that Monogram/Revell/etc actually make stuff to scale.

    At least they got that funky Rochester AA carb right.

    Wow!It is huge!I guess they did get it right after all!Looks like I painted the engine the right color too!

    How could that work?It is not connected to the exhaust manifolds!
     
  12. An aircleaner that size helps to reduce the sound of the air coming thru the carby making a more civilized motoring experience.......ie, it sounded quiet, not like those engines that those noisy hotrodders had.....lol.......andyd

    When I still ran the 303 in my 29 Ford roadster I ran the stock air cleaner. People used to ask tons of questions about it. It was always a topic of great curiosity at gas stations and such. I wish I'd kept it.
