I am looking to buy a 1959 Chevy apache. It has a 32 on the side emblem. Is that considered a 1/2 ton? Or what the hell does 32 mean?

    31 is a shortbed 1/2 ton, 32 is a longbed 1/2 ton, 36 is a 3/4 ton and 38 is a 1 ton

32 also means its has a longer bed.

You tell if it is 1/2 ton if it has 6 lugs.

It has 6 lugs. It's a stepside. Doesn't seem like a long bed by no means. Has the left rear fender intention for the spare. Which I would be willing to switch with someone for one without....

  7. It may not be a long bed but the emblems are from a long bed.:)

Check your VIN number. It will tell you what the truck is. Unless of course the cab was switched from a long bed frame to a short bed frame at some point in the past. A lot can happen in 55 years.

Sweet truck! Short bed, big back window and 327. Cheap price for a runner where I am. X2 what Saxman said lots can happen over so many years. If the vin tag is lost there is a partial vin on the frame rail near the steering box. Also she could have been born an 8 but not a 327.

vin numbers 3100 prefix is 3A59. 3B59=3200. If the prefixes are prefixed with a V she was a factory 8

I am going to keep all the drive train. It's going to be low, white walls, and a flaked roof probably. But then again , a real nice paint job and some nice rims would look slick too!!

White walls and some smooties will look great on that blue. I think you'll really enjoy the original driveline, would never change mine.
