Today, we have the second installment in our series about cyclecars. In the United States, these diminutive devices enjoyed a brief period of popularity from about 1912 to 1915, a time in which Ford had not quite yet cemented the reputation of their Model “T” as “The Universal Car.” Dozens of car builders set up shop all across the country and began cranking out vehicles that they hoped would appeal to both economy minded and sporting buyers.

Included in the series will be an excellent article from the January 15, 1914 issue of The Automobile magazine. The first three pages are below and we will include more soon. Stop by The Old Motor to see much more.

I saw a replica Morgan 3 wheeler at a car cruise last week, It had an S&S motor. It didn't look right, too big and left hand drive. I like the original.

You might have been looking at an actual 2012 Morgan 3. They use an S&S 1990cc.

Bob, that device? is incredible. Do you think the fenders are to satisfy a rule, as they really serve no other purpose other then keeping bird droppings off of the tires?

In 4065 above, it looks like he just threw a chain? What is dragging on the ground?

I follow this thread with particular interest and am considering a Cyclecar build after I finish my current Model A Speedster build. I am trying to figure out how my State views such things first for road use.

T-head, I went to "Tho Old Motor" to read that article on Cyclecars, and page "167" (which is page three of the article) missing. I would love to read it if it was available.

    Thx.

Am I seeing right about the pulley and cable steering like a plane?
I thought of a motorcycle engine but don't see the use of the fan / propeller thingy since there is no radiator or is it a car engine set sideways and used without the radiator?
