Bob, Budd (of Philly, PA) made the bodies for the Victory 6. I agree, they have a VERY distinctive (and gooood looking) body, but I always thought of them more as a baby Hisso- low and sleek (the bodies slide down over the framerails, much like a channel job from the factory)!
For those that have access to Australian Street Rodding magazine there's a 2 page spread on my car in the current edition dated September 2012 , No. 267. Some real nice pictures.................
Radiator shell has been chromed by Johnny Walker of Coffs Harbour and looks great. It will be " squared " up when the hood is fitted. Gold plated Dodge 6 badge and crank hole cover added. The Victory Six script is to come. DA sunvisor has been added. I like the bead around the lower edge and the little " v " in the centre that's everywhere on the Victory. Cowl moulds and brackets in place and the oil filter has been replaced by a Speedway Motors unit and swapped location with the coil. The coil WAS on the head. Stainless support bars to the radiator.
Trunk lid and rear bumper are now fitted. Tinted glass is now in. I went for a slight tint as I feel " black " glass dominates the look of a car.
The sunvisor had to be removed to fit the windscreen. I ordered the windscreen about 7 years ago and when unpackaged it had marks in the frame and will need to be removed and repaired before it hits the road. With the windscreen adjusters all I had was 1 arm and wingnut and everything else had to be made or copied. Assembled , ready to be installed. Dash with the instruments in place. The ignition switch and choke and the original dash light all to be added. Close up of the gauges. I'm waiting on new hubcaps from N.Z. and about to start chasing headlight and cowl light conduits. Yeah...............still happening.
Great work Paul, you couldn't get cleaner gauges if you tried, i remember your post when you had them done by Classic Intsruments, cherry on the cake. Shame about the windscreen frame, murphys law i guess?! Great to see this come together, Happy New Year!
The hubcaps have arrived and guess who is a happy chappy. There was no change from $700 and to now have no dimbles in my caps is great. Looking good. No more to say !
A modified " A " model tail light will do duty as my 3rd. brake light sitting in the rear window. Another view of the lamp. All the wiring will be concealed in the lamp and mounting bracket which is a modified DA cowl light bracket. In this pix you can see the choke and ignition switch in place. Just above the gauges you can make out the original dash light assembly . That's just about it for the dash. The choke and ignition switch came from www.vintageandclassicreproductions.com.au Stoplights are being set up here with home made brackets. I am using Victory type " E " tail lamps. The globe holders have been removed and festoon globes will be installed. This allows the wiring to be concealed in side the lamp bracket. You can see from this angle how all the wiring will vanish. The factory dash light assembly prior to chroming. There will be more...................
beautiful work, as usual envious of your progress! Like the idea of the modified A 3rd brake light, nice touch.
With the exception of external lighting , all the wiring is now complete. The doors have now been installed and will be fitted up. The stainless steel mold below the doors replaces the factory painted item. The mold came from a ' 70's Triumph 2000 car and was shortened to fit. Oil in the engine , gearbox and diff. We have ignition............. When the painter returns from holidays the guards will be done!
Paul, Tony who took the photos of your car for ASR is a good mate of mine. We were in Newcastle and he said he knew a hot rodder close by. It turned out to be Stewart Campbell. When Tony saw your dodge in Stewart's shop he wanted to do an article on it. I had the privilege of looking it over. It's a stunning car and that engine is hot rod porn. I'll look forward to seeing it finished.
On Friday the 5th I'm off to Newcastle to have a look ( it's been 12 months since I last saw it in the flesh ) and visit a couple of trim shops to book it in. No water in the radiator just yet as the shell has to come back out. Stewie wants it "right" and close isn't good enough. I will be taking every last piece that has to be fitted to the car with me. yeah baby.......................
To get my legs between the steering wheel and seat the steering wheel will have to be reduced in size. Heater tap is mounted on the water pump to keep the dash clean. The track in the boot is a guide for the boot lid support rod to keep the lid opened when required...........
1931 Dodge Shooting Star mascot that I picked up from ebay has been modified to fit the original radiator cap. That cap has now been chromed. You can see that it is in it's mock up stage. You can see a "tail " has been added to the back of the cap to support the back of the Shooting Star. All new stainless door handles have been fitted. They are Vintage and Classic items from Queensland , Australia. Third brake light installed. Just waiting on a new lens. Exterior handle also from Qld. Reflection from another car in the background makes it look " gold ". Webbing used under seat cushion to improve comfort. The webbing stretches.
Very nice car....those windshield adjusters I have a set all chromed i did not use when I put together my DA sedan
Hey Dodgekew, thanks for thinking of me. I have adapted some 32 ford ones, but thanks! I do have a question though, that radiator cap with the shooting star is awesome! I have the same cap but its not in perfect shape, was yours rechromed after you modified it? and how did you modify it? Mark
I had the mascot rechromed before modifying the radiator cap. The mascot is held in place by 3 pins which were broken off at the time of purchase. The chrome plater said that he could redrill the holes and install new pins prior to chroming. A groove was cut into the radiator cap to suit the shape of the mascot and then drilled for the pins. The radiator cap is a reproduction cap for a Victory Six . The "tail " was added to the " back " of the cap to get the DB logo level . hope this helps...............
As always, looking great, kw! I like your treatment of the shooting star mascot- when all is said and done, our '28 will have a copy of the Welsh dragon mascot:
