Vintage shots from days gone by!

    I think it may be an optical illusion due to a slightly slow shutter speed blurring the blades when the photo was taken?
    The Boomerang had a standard 11 foot diameter forged aluminium straight three bladed Hamilton Standard constant speed propeller.

    I have always liked the look of that airframe. I think we need to put a 3350 in it and clip the wings a bit, smooth the canopy and take it to Reno.....

    :D Oohhh yeah! I like that idea! Maybe drop in a three stage supercharger, direct port injection Nitrous, run 145 octane fuel. If 'Rare Bear' can find 4,000-4,500Hp I'm sure we can too! The CA-14A had clipped wings but was only a prototype but at least the plans are there.
    The CA-14 also had a turbo-supercharger mounted behind the cockpit and a slightly lengthened fuselage for stability. The air racer almost builds it's self!

    Another superb aircraft (That sadly did not go into production) is the CA-15 Kangaroo. This fighter evolved from an attempt to place a larger radial engine and a turbo-supercharger in a CA-14 Boomerang.
    Initially designed to be powered by a supercharged Pratt & Whitney R-2800, the first design mock ups resembled an enlarged Seafury. Unfortunately these engines became unavailable, this resulted in a change to the Bristol Centaurus that was already in production in Australia for the DAP Mk21 Beaufighter.
    At this stage it was decided to test an in-line V-12 in the aircraft. A Griffon 61 was procured from England for the trial. A great deal of re-designing was called for to mount the Griffon and the cooling radiators resulting in the aircraft now resembling an over size P-51 Mustang. This independent evolution performed so well the Bristol Centaurus was dropped in favor of the Rolls Royce Griffon with a two stage supercharger.

    It was on this day, April 30th, back in 1900, that the good engineer by the name of John Luther Jones met his fate on one cold Mississippi night. In the rain and the fog he lost his life in a last ditch effort to stop his train before a fateful collision on the tracks. Thanks to his efforts, not a single soul was lost, save for his own. His mother called him John, but you know him better by his nickname, Casey.

    Hey, this site has been helpful to me in the fact that I have been able to verify several pieces of equipment and buildings I have used in doing some of my service station dioramas . I also would have never had the opportunity to have had dealings with "T-Head " here too. The Fish Inn diorama got featured in The Old Motor .com as a result ! scrubba :):cool::p

    The General Balloon Jumbo Tire - Riley Head Ford Streamliner

    This Riley-Ford powered design that was apparently being used to promote General Balloon Jumbo tires in this undated photo. Details about the car are sketchy, but it was apparently built by Libby Body Works of Kansas City, Missouri as a rolling billboard for the Young Advertising Company using conventional Ford Model “A” running gear and a Riley OHV conversion.

    We have some info on the famous Riley Four Port Head, but would like to learn more about this teardropper. Check out our post on The Old Motor and let us know if you can help us with more info.
