  1. I'm putting a 302 roller motor in my Model A, but I'm going to give it a vintage look. Anyone out there have done the same lets see some pictures please!

Interesting concept, but I think you'll get more grief than help...

  3. Just throw some finned stuff on it and call it good. I am a ford guy and its hard to make the sbf look real vintage IMHO. Sbc on the other hand real easy. Good luck, a ford in a ford....what a concept

  4. Rod and Custom had an article on how to put Y-Block valve covers on a sbf. I just went with the Y-Block myself.

I guess it boils down to defining vintage. Faux valve covers are like faux patina and it is hard to do anything with a SBF other than give it a sixties performance look. If that's your definition of 'traditional' go for it. I actually like the Cobra look with a basketful of Weber IDAs on a SBF - preferably with the stamped tin valve covers if you want vintage early 60s....

  6. Rat Racer-Grief is what i get on a daily bases so I'm not to worried about that.

Loveoftiki-The finned stuff is cool i like it but I think I'm going to give it as much of an old look as i can.

Mctim64-I saw that article you are talking about, thats actually what gave me the idea of a whole vintage look.I think I'm going to be using that for my engine. Also i bought a custom upper intake that bolts to a lower intake "mustang gt40" so with that I will be running 3 Holley 94's. It was made in New Zealand, got it off a guy on here just don't remember who.

  9. Not a sbf 302 but it is a modern engine that looks vintage.

One of the best I've seen is a Quad 4 sitting normal position in a Model A with a T-5 trans. I believe it had side draft carbs and it had a finned front timing belt cover. At first, even second glance it looked like an Offy. Sorry I don't have a picture to post, but I bet someone does. BILL RINALDI

I've seen the quad 4s, there used to be a company that sold the carb kits, transmission adapters, aluminum covers, everything. I had contemplated swapping one into my OT Triumph for a while. I think the company's name was something pretty straight forward like Offy Quad 4 or something similar.

Most of the time I'd rather see an engine with plain stamped covers and whatnot than dressed up to be something it's not. As far as period correct goes let a SBF or SBC be what it is. I can understand dressing a later engine like the Q4 so it doesn't stick out though.

Vintage look? Just don't put new stuff on it. Use the cheep over the counter ingition parts that are black like plug wires, coil, points distributor cap, use a petronix in it if you want to, but stay away from the big modern looking duraspark, and definetely stay away from the shiny red msd stuff. Black engine and gold valve covers was always my favorite ford color combo.

    Just simplify as much as you can, rip off all the smog and unnecessary crap; powersteering pump,smog pump,a/c compressor, paint it up throw some finned vavle covers and filter housing on and some headers, and loom up and consolidate all the wires. heres my Mopar 360 I pulled out of my ramcharger to put into my 57 Dodge, before and after;

  17. I'd seen a similar article on how to put Desoto hemi covers on a sbc.

Maybe it's just me, but isn't that like rolling up a sock and putting it in your speedo?

    That sounds neat!

Just a common plenum/box with the pattern of the runners on the bottom and 94 pattern up top?

  23. Yes it is cast aluminum and has the three Holley 94/ Stromberg 97 patterns on the top and it is a two piece box. I will be home in a few months and then i will take pictures of it and post them on here for you all to see. I have never seen one before. Thats why i had to buy it. Hope it works ok.

the rodders journal did an article dressing up the sbf in period goodies a few years back. It was a good article. They had one with dual quads cobra finned goodies and cal custom scoops, looked real good

Put this together for a friend of mine that put a sbc in a mopar. Got a load of crap from the previous owner. Kinda fits in with the sock anology, but did come out pretty well. Basicly a stock motor so we only ran one carb. This was really easy on this old T 1 manifold. Truck runs fine, owner is happy, previous owner was happy till he discovered what we did. All turned out fine.

I like that. You probably get away with it alot.

  30. I'm not condoning this kind of behavior, quite the opposite. That's why I added let the sbf be what it is.
