I love findin' shit like this...

Was cruising CL and found this advertised as a 1920's Aircraft Wheel Dolly....had to have it.

The story I got from the old man was that this wheel dolly was owned by the Spartan Aircraft company here in Tulsa, and was used to move their airplanes around in the hangar. He got it from another old geezer friend of his who's Father worked for Spartan Aircraft in the 1920's....that's how he got it...check out the riveted brass tag on this thing...too cool.

It's cast iron and weighs about 25 lbs. Two of the casters look to be original and the other two look like replacements...it rolls great.

Super find. Now buy a Spartan Mansion and you can roll it around the garage with that dolly under the nose wheel.

elder friend of mine has a pair that look similar with that basket weave pattern, but narrower and deeper pocket for the old teens/20s car tires.

I looked at them each time I was there, but what the heck would I use them for...

That's a cool piece Larry. Think how much easier it will be to move your unicycle around with that thing.

First, see how it works. Then, go to a pattern maker and have him cast up three more. Might be a marketable item. I for one think its really cool.

Very cool! My Dad went to school there after the war. He has a lot of good stories about Spartan and Tulsa.

Spartan Executives (only 34 built) were the epitome of "traditional" airplanes. DD

Rhere is more workmanship in the metal ID tag then an entire set of current wheel dollies.
