Excellent stuff ......I was beginning to think traditional Kustom builds were a thing of the past on here....

Call me crazy...but I'm really digging the idea of a white Merc... I hope you're at least considering keeping it that color....

  3. I agree it is nice to see a traditional build here and letting us know that those types of builds do exist in a world of streetrods. So refreshing to see this.

    Thanks man!

I struggle with color more than anything on this car.
The interior has me locked in a little, but I still have plenty of options

    But I have considered white....

Thanks man. I'm happy to provide some refreshment!
Speaking of traditional, I have looked all over for the correct battery for my engine compartment... Yours is spot on! Is it 6 or 12v ?

Alright so I pulled my door hinges off because they were really pitted. with the plans of welding them up and milling them flat...
I'm going to choose my battles here....
does anyone out there have a good set of door hinges for a 49 Merc?
    Even just the lowers?

I have some time to get this build thread totally up to date with where I am with the build. Most everything is covered, but there are a few odds and ends to fill you in on.
    One is the steering column.
I love gm tilt column so I'm going to install one of those for sure...... Big, square, plastic and so many options for a bitchen steering wheel.....!!
Anyone that knows me knows there is nothing in this world that irritates me more than a gm tilt column in a custom.
I get so excited when I see a custom.... I loose sight of everything around me, I focus in on it. I strip it naked with my eyes and devour every detail.....
When I finally make my way to the interior after thoroughly molesting the exterior I find that more times than not I'm left disappointed.... Disappointed because someone chose belly room and adjustability over the clean simply lines of a factory column*.... Sigh....

*disclaimer*all views are solely my own and are not intended to pass judgment on you or your car

    Sorry for the rant.

As you can tell from some of the earlier pictures posted I am running a floor shifter. I tried to hook up the column shift, but ran across the old king shift shifters and had to have one.
So that presented a problem with the column.... The shifter was still on the column and its pot metal so i couldn't easily weld it up and Prep it for chrome

So here's what I came up with.
I cut the nipple of the column bell and rotated the whole thing down so I could hide this guy... Call it security....
The start button the dash will go to the horn

Nope, I ground it down and filed the hole to fit the start button and drilled a passage so I can run the wires with the ones going to the turn signal wires

I finally got a chance to check out your build thread Jeremy. I'm very glad your car is so well liked. It's shaping up to be an iconic custom for sure. I'm glad I was a part of the adventure even if it was just on chopping the top. I posted a couple pics I took while we were in the thick of it. Don't forget that we still gotta do some real-deal metalfinishing on all that new sheetmetal.

    "Just on chopping the top"
    Your crazy
    Hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha

The chop IS what makes this car.
Yeah I've put a ton of time into the rest of the car, but the chop is the cherry on top!

I can't thank you enough for your time effort and talent.
    You made this happen !

Once I get the car jammed out I'll bring it back over

    THANK YOU DAMON!!

Thanks Boobie. You're like a cuddly porcupine. I gotta round up some business so I can justify the shop. If I had it my way there would be a steady stream of cool cars to build so I can get off the merry go round I've been on.

Trunk looks great. It vastly improved from the version before and even that was really good. Get cracking!

    Jeremy,
This will be the Merc that everyone basis all Mercs from here on out. You have seriously NAILED IT and set a bar for all others attempt to achieve. I am so proud of you with this build that you have stuck to your vision and not ventured off at all. I know that being strict traditionalist is what we (The Iron Lords) are all about and you have made us all so very proud with this build. Congratulations for your achievements thus far my brother.
