I dont know jack squat about 61 bel airs, but I do know I like yours.
I dont see any reminents of a colume shifter or the linkage hookup plates on the bottem of the colume either but reguardless she looks great.

    Great find, enjoy it

by the looks of that data sheet, it would have to be a 348 Car to have the 4speed, and a RPO at that.

  4. My dad traded a 58 Vette in on a '59 'vert with a factory 283 Fuelie/ 4 speed.
Damn, I wish he still had it.
    Nice cars, the 59/60's

  5. The pedals are not '60. They look '65 and up.

pretty much every chevy car of the 60s had the cross flags, regardless of the engine.

That's a side cover for a Muncie. No Muncies in 1960. DD

    That's a 66-68 Muncie, the original RPO 685 would have been a Borg-Warner

Damn nice Chevy!! I love the 60 body style. And finding one that solid is pretty damn rare in itself!

How does the hole cut for the floor shifter look from below? Normally one could tell from this if it was a conversion. I have a friend that had a '60 Bel Air two door hardtop, Tasco Turquiose, 348/320, 3-speed. This was in the 1962-63 era.

  13. Hey! Gimme that car!! :D

I love it man. I had a '60 in high school.

This car is amazing, just sitting in there looking at the old stickers rules. Im shocked at how much history is in there. The glovebox is full of old goodies

For a little comparison in 65 I bought a 60 2dr. ht.Impala 348/3 speed. Mint condition for $1000.00. Had to choose between that or a 58 vette, bad trans for same $.

    I thought the same thing.

Very good score, whatever the linage.

  22. I look at the burnt paint( cut with torch and ground?) and the fact that the hole is funny shaped as it being either dealer modified or home modified...But I'm just a shadetree mechanic at best...I LOVE that car by the way! Please tell me yer just gonna make it safe and drive it as is.....methinks this car was performanced enhanced in the 70s...

The formed lip looks factory, they probably clearanced it for the Muncie/Hurst.

Not on these cars. The 283 had the V, the 348 had the V and the crossed flags. The trunk emblem was different too. I think 61's were the same, as well.

:)From the condition of the finish it looks like it came from a building that had a big fire near. Does it smell of smoke?

love what you have. Who cares how rare it is, or if it is a factory four speed car? Just clean it up and drive the heck out of it. Installing a 348 would just be the icing on the cake.
