Is that the buggy that you were telling me about at the GNRS that you scored out in Salton Sea? That thing is cool! That's a pretty unique body, a real change from the Manx-style you normally see. All it needs now is a pair of Halibrand spindle mounts I have been wanting to do a street buggy for years. Duvall-style windshield, seats moved way back (make it a 2-seater), painted black, slammed with 16x10 ETIIIs and spindle mounts.
I like the way you think!! Yep, this is the one from the Salton Sea. I don't know what was crustier...the buggy or the old guy who I bought it from.
Maybe some of y'all who are remotely interested have seen the lettering, but here it is... Great tonneau cover by Glen Kramer and Brian Jones!
Does it still have that funky "dead fish" smell? cool buggy! 40 years ago my neighbor built one and i was invited to go out on the maiden voyage and my mom said "No Way" ! Man was i pissed at her then 5 hours later when the guys arrived back home with the buggy (crumpled into a pile after rolling) on a trailer and the three of them sporting 1 new cast, broken wrist and 2 broken collar bones along with multiple other wounds i was sure glad my mom was so SMART! they figured a test ride with no roll bar was ok and i remember saying to my mother "can't figure out why they wear helmets because the all the POT they smoke has killed all their brain cells"! Damm boys!
I've looked and looked and much research, only found pics of ONE other one, same color too. I have no idea. Funny, anyone who's into buggies will say "Oh. Well that's a _____ body" Wrong pal... Sitting in the AZ sun for a few years kind of killed off all the bad mojo. Pot smokers...HAhahahaaaa
Jeff...I've quit that a long time ago... Chip, it's an open house thing, every 4th Saturday, like SoCal's every 2nd Saturday deal. I plan to be there by 7:30 22nd Ave n' Peoria
...and in full life-cycle fashion...the buggy needs to find a new home so I can turn out my '37 much, much sooner!! http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1440601
Ahh man, that's too bad you've got to unload the Fishbone. I dig that car. I do understand, though. I have sold many cars to finance others (examples: 1966 Chevelle, 1969 Camaro Z/28, 1965 GTO, 1965 LeMans, 1967 Nova, 1967 Riviera, scores of Chevy trucks. I'll stop there before I start getting all teary-eyed. I can't wait to see the '37 on my next trip to AZ!
Hahahahaa, you're worse than me. I think Chip may be with you though! If the weather clears up, I'll be sailing the S.S. Fishbone this weekend at the Goodguys show....
For the first time ever in Scottsdale Good Guys history I didn't go. Too much to do and I just didn't want to be out in the rain and cold after the spring I've had healthwise. Sucked to miss it.
Buttt.... you didn't miss much. Our buddies at All Ways got the GG pick with the Bronco they just finished. The Liberace brought out his new tank. Enjoyed a short afternoon in the sun seeing some neat cars, but was not a normal GG show. All the more reason to have this one (March deal) at the Coliseum! No soup! Alright, I won't get started on THAT again.
Boones, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you while you were in town here. I read your posts so frequently here.
Yeah....early reports from buddies said they were not opening the polo field so I'm thinking, this sucker is a WASH. My decision was made simple when I found out my buggy may be sold. Said fuggit, not chancing anything dumb happening to it. Went Sunday just to wander around for an hour or so. I'll see you next time!
Wow...I love that little thing...I've never seen one of these built in a fashion I liked...Until now!
