1959 Corvette, bought at 21 years old- drove in College- sold when drafted and was being sent over seas-
1964 Falcon Sprint Convertible, 260 swapped to 289, 4 speed, kinda ratty but it was mine. After doing a lot of Muncie trans work, I learned the hard way about the weight of a top-loader. I think I still have the imprint on my chest. Hoop
My first car was a '48 Crosley. My first car as a legal aged driver at 16 years was a '29 Ford roadster pickup with a flat head V8.
1926 T Tudor for $220.00 delivered January 1, 1967. First car on the road was a one owner '54 Chevy 4Door later that year.
1965 VW bug got it at a closed bid auction for 127.97 I was 15 had a droped valve got it running and driving and my first ticket before I was 16 and had a license.
Your going to throw rotten cabbage at me..... I was 15 and it was a channeled Deuce Roadster,... for $275.00 (took all my savings and a summer gas station job to pay for it) ,.... It started WWIII between Dad and I.......
The first car I owned in the mid 60s was a 1950 Olds I purchased with my older brother for $100. The seller had hit a post and damaged the passenger fender. It had originally been owned and customized by my hometown John Milner type named Jiggs Dann. He shaved the door handles and installed the first pop door kit I had ever seen. His rear tail lights were 1957 chevrolet hood rocket assemblies molded in the quarters with Caddy bullet taillights. Mr Dann was a master lead slinger and body man. The car had the 303 Rocket and a 3 speed on the floor. I purchased and replaced the fender from our local junk yard and polished the car till the paint wore thin. In a year or so my brother was going to college and I had no license or place to store the car so it was sold for a $50 profit. At 14 years old I knew the car was cool but in hindsight I had no idea what I had. Frank
In 1976, I was 13 & my old man asked me what car I wanted. 1940 Ford DeLuxe Coupe was the answer. The result was a 1939 Ford Standard Tudor. Close enough at the time. Still own it. Flathead w/ 3 carbs, duals w/ no mufflers, dropped axle, Candy Brandywine w/ flames painted by me MANY years ago. Finally got the '40 too. It's in the shop, waiting patiently. Damn, I need to get working on that...
I was 16 when I bought my first (running) car with title. It was a 66 galaxie 500 2dr hardtop with a 352/cruise-o-matic. Great car.
In 1979 when I was 15 I bought a '68 Firebird . Was red primer with crager wheels , really wide in the back . It had a Pontiac 350 540 lift cam , worked powerglide trans and a 411 10 bolt rear . It barely idled , so I swapped cams at my buddy's dads garage so it rans smoothly ,test drove it around (no license yet) and traded it for a Sunn Concert Lead guitar amp and cabinet and some cash . Impetuous youth , what can I say .
My Dad gave me my first car. It is a 1931 Dodge Brothers DH6 business coupe and I still have it.......
A 1986 Volvo 740 with the weakest engine available... Loved it though, the freedom of going wherever I wanted whenever
'68 Chevy Camaro droptop... 327/275 with a 'glide... Bought it '77 and then sold it to my pal in ????...'79 And he still has it..
When I was 14, I found this Anglia. The old lady that owned it said that it was her deceased husband's car and he dearly loved it, so she said she couldn't let it go for less than $15. I has $12 and my mom loaned me $3. Bob's Anglia at Newport Beach, June 1968. The Hillman had a 427 Ford, twin Holleys, C-6, Olds rear end. The thing was a terror on the streets. Both were "daily drivers" and neither ever made a pass on a drag strip. These guys drove them every day. I sold it to a guy who ever since has been a good friend. He put a 340 Mopar/Torqueflite in it and used it as his "daily driver". When I turned 16, I bought this Model A panel delivery with a 327/Muncie 4-speed for dirt cheap. I painted the fenders black, cleaned it up, and put on a set of Americans. Seen here at Irwindale Drag Strip on Jan. 1, 1968. My panel, the Bob's Anglia and then Eric Vaughn's Model A coupe. I drove that panel everyhere,...I mean everywhere before the mags I had a set of Buick wires that I got for $100. This photo was taken Thanksgiving, 1967. I had just turned 17.
1946 Ford tudr sedan, 49 engine, using merc bellhousing, lowered all the way around. I was 14. Car was rust free, bought it for $10.00 cost me $5.00 too have it towed home lol. sandy
I was 17. Saved up enough money working after school to buy my friend,s '61 A-H 3000. Drove it everyday for 1-1/2 years until someone ran a stop sign and totaled it. Took the insurance money and bought my first '55 Chevy two-door.
This is mine. Now my parents car..............arent parents supposed to give the kids a car, not the other way around? Doc.
In 1971, age 14, $10 52 Studebaker 1/2 ton pu, added a 62 Cad 390 engine, trans, and rearend. Fast and fun, and alot ot tickets.
I think I was about 15 when I bought a 1948 chevy pickup with a cracked engine block. Pulled it, got the block welded put it back together. Ended up selling it when I was 17 or 18.
I had a 65 Malibu hardtop, 283/slip and slide powerglide. Sold it and bought a 64 & a half Mustang fastback 289/4spd. Loved the Mustang but the cool guys a few years older than me were all wrenching on tri five Chevys. In the mid 70's any of these cars could be had for anywhere from a hundred bucks to a whopping $1500 or so. One guy in town had a "Outdated" Model A coupe that any of us would want now days. I thought it was the coolest car in town back then and finally got my 30 a couple of years ago.
In 1952 when I was 16 my father came home and said that he had found me a car. He took me to see it on a friends Used Car lot. It was a 46 Chev 4dr sedan. You can't turn down a car because it is a 4dr so that is what I got and I made the best of it. I was always into cars and I had a job during high school in our local Speed Shop. All of my money was spent on gas and car parts. It was black so I had to have whitewalls, lowering blocks and fender skirts. Later the hood was filled and dechromed as was the trunk with a 49 Chev front tag bracket on the rear. Also Dual carbs and split exhaust. Since that time I never had an untouched car or truck. It is an incurable disease that I still have and am not looking for a cure.
