    We had a great time racing at the Hunnert Car Heads Up! I got to meet Dave Straw and his wife. He flew in from Tampa for the race. He drove the car when he was 15 in 1968.

    Absolutely bitchin'. While we are on the subject of Topolino's does anyone have any idea where Jazzy Nelson's famous Topolino ended up? Have heard it is in someone's garage and they won't do anything with it.

    [​IMG]Offered in the swap meet, this rare 1958 Chevrolet Del Ray sedan delivery could be had for $5,000. It&#8217;s powered by a &#8217;60 348-cid V-8.

    There is still a large segment of our society that remains lost in the 1950s and &#8217;60s. Those two decades are remembered as the good ol&#8217; days, when hairdos &#8211; both men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s &#8211; made an often gravity-defying statement, Elvis and rock &#8217;n&#8217; roll music emerged as symbols of youthful rebellion and hot rods and [COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important][COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important]custom [/FONT][COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important]cars[/FONT][/COLOR][/FONT][/COLOR][/COLOR] were the dream ride of every teen-aged boy.
    Many of those who yearn for the simpler, more pin-striped days reflected in the 1950s and &#8217;60s have an annual gathering spot in Symco, Wis., to relive those days of poodle skirts and flathead-powered deuce coupes. The event is called the Symco Shakedown, and the third annual show was held Aug. 12-13.
    Period dress was the norm among attendees, and if your skills at creating a time-warp hairdo weren&#8217;t quite up to snuff, no problem. A vendor specializing in whipping female tresses into the perfect bouffant or male locks into the greasy, wavy duck&#8217;s ass was on hand, to the delight of onlookers.
    The two-day show featured a swap meet, vendors of accessories for hot rods and period lifestyle items and crowd-pleasing events such as a dunk tank and mini-bike drag racing.
    The star(s) of the show, though, were the many pre-1965 hot rods, customs, race cars and mainstream collector [COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important][COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important]vehicles[/FONT][/FONT][/COLOR][/COLOR] that lined the showgrounds, which are unique to begin with. Also home to another large thresheree event held in early summer, the Symco grounds are modeled after a prewar small town&#8217;s Main Street, including all the buildings such as a general store, fire house, print shop, automotive garage, etc., all filled with relics of the period.

    [​IMG]&#8220;Jalopies&#8221; come in all flavors, such as this [COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important][COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important]Chevy[/FONT][/FONT][/COLOR][/COLOR] six-cylinder-powered, Ford five-window [COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important][COLOR=#0000FF ! important][FONT=inherit ! important]coupe[/FONT][/FONT][/COLOR][/COLOR]-bodied merger that&#8217;s topped with a beer-tap shift handle.

    [​IMG]Built in 1964 and drag raced primarily at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wis., this 1938 Fiat had a best elapsed time of 9.80 in &#8217;67. In its current race trim, it features a Hilborn-injected 301-cid Chevy V-8 mated to a Hurst-shifted three-speed [COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important][COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important]transmission[/FONT][/FONT][/COLOR][/COLOR]. The Fiat&#8217;s rear bodywork (below) has a Simpson parachute built into it.

This classy five-window coupe [COLOR=#0000ff !important][FONT=inherit !important][COLOR=#0000FF ! important][FONT=inherit ! important]sports[/FONT][/FONT][/COLOR][/COLOR] a modern Poncho V-8 for momentum, plus multiple period custom touches to dress its exterior.

    2011 Hunnert Car Pile Up:

    The last time these cars were next to each other, it was Memorial Day weekend 1966. It was the Olympics of Drag Racing at Great Lakes Dragaway. It was the first time Jerry Adams ever ran the Fiat down the track. He was trying to work out the bugs and get the timing right.

    So it is test and tune and who lines up next to him? The Stone, Woods, & Cook 1941 Willys coupe. Jerry lost badly to the Willys.

    This is the original Swindler II. It was restored by Mike Wales. We ran into it at the Hunnert Car Heads Up in Decatur Illinois this past weekend. We could not pass up the photo op.

    [FONT=&quot] I just remembered an interesting thing that happened to me at the grove when looking at the great photos. Once , on the starting line the engine just quit, so I pushed the Fiat by hand the entire length of the strip! Had to go through the speed lights at the end to advance to the next level and could not be pushed by a car, only by the driver! Thought you might get a chuckle out of that.[/FONT]

    Today I was honored with Mike Gish's race suit. His widow called me a while back and said she was ready to let it go and to call when I was in town. Today was the day. I am very happy!!!! I made my boy model it for me.

    2012 Meltdown Drags. I was in the car for about 15 minutes waiting for the track crew to clean up a spill. I figured as soon as i take off my gear I would need to quickly put it on so i baked in the sun and Brian Blumenberg took this cool pic.

    Hi Curt, It was on the slide disc at 39.02. Both of those cd's you made are really neat. You will sell a ton of them when word gets out. Thanks for making them!
