I need some assistance from owners of 49-52 convetible chevys (pontiac and Old) + (53-54) maybe the same. I need pictures and info on what the area around the back edge of the convertible top opening looks like as well as what the trunk hinges look like I am converting my 51 chevy hardtop over to a convertible using factory folding too frame and windshield frame. what I do not have info on is what difference there are in the sheetmetal between the hardtop and convert on the sail panel (area between trunk and interior where the top folds down into. How the top material attaches to the body, what the well (where the top folds down into) looks like. I am hoping someone has a convert with no top material on it that can take some pictures for me or even those with can help with pictures or info on how the top material attaches.. I would appreciate any and all detail pictures of those areas
well I have to ask a different question that maybe someone will know. How does the rear of the convertible top attach at the back to the body. (this is the area I am looking for a picture or help understanding.
Have you sent BobK a PM? I know he did it and he's always been a lot of help to me when I've had questions working on my mom's '50 hardtop.
Hey guys,I have been on the phone with BobK a few times but I can not get him to take his car apart for the pictures. Not sure why he will not take he car apart for me, Bob is usually first to help. jonzcustomshop. Thank you, Thank you.. for all these picures
If you're going to do that swap right, you're going to need a convertible frame as well, or a whole lot of bracing on the hard top frame. The factory vert has a big X member to make the frame solid. Even with it, my '50 is still pretty "flexy" on the road. I'd get some pics for you, but it's put away for winter now...
brewster, I plan to use some chassis bracing from Art Morrison chassis to build a stronger more rigid chassis. (better than the factory I hope).
