I had my flathead block cleaned and checked for cracks.. They found a crack in one of the valve ports. They are going to stitch the crack by drilling holes, tapping, and then screwing in cast iron plugs. They continue down the length of the crack overlapping each plug. Has anyone out there had this done and what was the result?
I have had it done on a few castings. It worked just fine. Seems to be accepted to be the proper procedure. Search the forum with the keyword: locknstitch
Better than welding because it doesn't put the stress in the casting from the heat. Helluva lot easier too. When it is done the repair will be almost imperceptable.
