    Hello,

I am 29 years old, from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I was refferred to this site from a tree care forum when I was looking for some info on an old Chevy 6 wheeler I just picked up. Trying to figure out if it's a 348 or a 409.

  2. Welcome Bucknfeller, don't know much about the 6 wheeler you speak of, but on the 349/409's if it was an industrial or heavy truck engine it might be the 348 WorkMaster, good for torque but the blocks have notches in the cylinders to keep the compression around 7 something. Found one in an old '60 tow truck rusting behind a barn, valve covers had WorkMaster on them and found out it wouldn't be a good match for my '58 belair. Which side is the dip stick on and what are the casting numbers?
