My aunt's '65 Ford Galaxie. I failed when I ran the tire over the pole base, as I was parallel parking. The pole tipped and smacked the side of the car. You're done! He says.

HA! Mine was a 1966 Mustang, 6 cylinder Auto. Dad's car and what a yawner. Suppose he was smart not to buy a V8 Mustang with a teenage boy in the house. (But we also had a 68 Chrysler at home with a 440. Guess which car I drove as often as possible ;) )

:DI had a gray and white 1959 Ford 2dsd. 37k miles 312 with 2 down draft 4bbls and 3 on the tree! My dad took it in on trade for a new Toyota Corolla in 1972. The car cost me $32.15, the 2.15 was for the state insp. (N.H.). That old boat was scary fast and would hold a dozen people for the $5.00/car load drive-in. The evaluator looked at the car and asked if I was kidding? Had me parallel park on Main St. I stopped at a spot and he asked if I was sure I wanted this spot. I smiled and wheeled it in. He shook his head and said were done back to Motor Vehicle. With license in hand I left the parking lot leaving rubber and smoke behind! Man what a ride......

My brother's 1965 Chevelle, 327/350 hp, Muncie 4 speed. Never even got into high gear.

  17. My Dad's 1964 IH Scout 80 half cab, complete with sagging door hinges, half rotten floor boards and a horn button on the dash. Passed the first time (in a upsate NY winter)! The heater worked too. :)

Arkansas 1957, I was 14. The state trooper doubled as the driving examiner. I flunked the written test. The trooper filled out a form, handed it to me and said to take it with $4 to the tag agent and he would write me the driver's license. I said "don't you want to see me drive?" He said "hell no you might have a wreck. You've been driving about two years anyway haven't you?" I drove off in my junker 51 Ford.
    True story.

Learned how to drive in a Renault Dauphine, but had to take the driving test in a 1960 Dodge station wagon. Man...I should have gotten a ship pilots license for that one!

I passed my licence first time, on my birthday, the first day I could have a licence, plus I completed my final university entrance exam the same day.
I drove a 74 light green metallic HQ Kingswood sedan - 3 on the tree, 202 CI red six. I'd been driving my mum's car for years previous, but then I was legal.

Right after my 16th birthday in 73, in a 69 Caddy Sedan Deville! Needless to say, parallel parking was a bit of a problem, some cutting and filling, but I passed! Friend however, did not; hit a cop car on first try!
