That was an advertisement for Hudson and their 1935 Terraplane demonstrating the strength of the steel roof. I don't know where their factory was? The boat and girls weighed a combined 2,665 lbs.
I'm still waiting for a definitive identification. The consensus seems to be that it was a torpedo stern that was chopped off.

The Hudson Motor Car Co. was directly across the street from Chrysler Corp. in Detroit but of course merged with Nash-Kelvinator in spring of '54 and all operations were moved to Kenosha, WI becoming American Motors.

Not only yes, but hell yes; that's very reasonable for a minor project boat, be it jet or V- drive....
I'm not sure about the trailer. I've heard mixed stories about it and was told that the trailer it sits on isn't the one that goes with it, however, the owner himself never stated such...he has led me to believe that the trailer it's on is the trailer the buyer would get. It's a delicate situation because, even though he is the actual owner and has the pink, he is tempermental and the kind of guy that will turn on you real quick. I need to address the trailer issue, but I need to do it strategically. Even if it is the somewhat thrashed trailer next to it, I am still considering buying the boat. My main concern would be any stress cracks or damage that wouldn't be obvious until it's actually on the water. He hasn't launched it this year because he stopped rental on his slip and didn't plan on running the boat this season. I want to get it on the water before I pull the trigger, just having a hard time getting him to commit to a weekend.
1956 Crestliner Viking Deluxe. All aluminum. It's 14 feet, and has a 1958 35 hp Evinrude with a Johnson Cowl. This model of boat (twin cockpit with walk-thru) was made only in '56 and '57. Very few are known to exist. The '56 was red and gray, and the '57 was white and green. The '56 was rated for 50 horse, and the '57 (with no changes) was rated for 60. So, yes, I'd love to get a bit more power for it. But I won't go new on the motor. Gotta be a vintage motor, so choices are slim. I really like the hood I have on there now, and that hood will fit a 40 horse up to about '69 IIRC. To go with a 50 or 60 horse, I'd have to put on a Mercury. They still looked good/vintage into the '60's, so if I found a deal, I might re-fit her. Other option is a V4 Evinrude or Johnson, but they're very heavy, and serious gas hogs. The boat has had a few changes. In stock form, it was painted gray on the sides, with a red decking and red on the bottom like I have it. It is now painted off-white on the deck, and the sides are mirror polished. The original upholstery was white and red striped seats, with a palomino horse styled vinyl covered dash board. That was all gone when I got it, and only a couple pieces remained under neath trim and whatnot. It now has black vinyl seats, and the dash is awaiting a restore. I'll most likely go with Mahogany veneer over a sheet of aluminum. The original dash had small sheets of aluminum that wrapped around to the sides on each end, and all that was wrapped in the horse vinyl. I'll make a sheet of aluminum to wrap around and be styled like the original, just not with vinyl wrap. The original glove box was just raw aluminum, so I took the frame off, and tried my hand at engine turning. Not perfect, but I'm happy. I have a nice chrome rimmed 35mph speedo to put next to the glove box. That's the next project. I modded the stock windshield a bit. I gave it a rake and chop I laid it back a little bit, and in doing so, it lowered it a bit. It also was missing the top trim, so I made that out of channel aluminum. I treated the modern trailer to some love recently, I painted the stock galvanized wheels and added some stainless steel hubcaps. They don't make hubcaps to fit those 12 inch wheels, so, it was a challenge. If anyone's interested in the details, let me know, I'll go into what was done to make it work. That Crestliner is BEAUTIFUL. I've eyed a couple vintage aluminum boats like that, and that makes me want one even more. At the moment, however, family consensus is leaning more toward vintage camper than vintage boat.
And this is my little one. Also a 1956 Crestliner. This is a Commander model. 12 feet long. It has a '55 Johnson 25 hp motor. Great little boat, but best suited to solo trips, or with one other person. It started life as an open fishing boat style, with no front deck. It was modified to have a front deck and steering wheel before I got it. I tore off that homemade deck, and made my own, including the seats and the center deck. The pair together...
Thank you! Well, of course, you need both, right? I pull the boats with my Dodge Magnum R/T. Great car, but not as cool as something closer to the boat's age. I dream of one day having a suitable tow rig.
My '58 Chris Continental. It was a beautiful original boat but too much for me to keep it looking this way. I live in an area where there are several vintage boats. I have a real soft spot in my heart for classic mahogany inboards.
