I'm trying to stay in the mid to late 50's era with my build and was wondering if a dual quad intake on an Oldsmobile rocket engine would fall into that era.I tried searching the internet and the hamb but haven't come up with anything.

Yes, Edmunds built a 2x4 in the first half of the 1950s, for the 303's. It is scarcer than his 2x2's. There were other brands of 2x4 as well, to fit the bigger 324, and 371's

T Bird had them in 57, so did Chevy (270 HP). Caddy also on the Eldorados and maybe others in 57. There may have been others and some even sooner, but those are the ones I remember. Oh, and the Plymouth Golden Commando in 58 (or was that 57 too?)

Yes... a buddy pulled a 56 or 57 Caddy out of a field and it had a 4 barrel set up on it with a 2X4 set up for it in the trunk. A pleasant surprise!

You bet dual quads are traditional. The only down side nowadays is the price of gasoline.:(

Yes but not a modern manifold with the NEON red signed Edlebrock carbs screaming "I'm brand new and never seen an old hotrod"

"E Bird" (Thunderbird) dual quad with the wrong but period carbs.
    JMHO

BTW you have the right to keep your foot out of it and be descent on gas but as Ron White said you might not have the ability.:D

No they are the factory Lincoln carbs. Similar in design to the "towering infernos" used by Ford in the early/mid 50s. They got that nick name but I don't believe that they were any more inclined to catching fire.

They're called 'towering infernos' for a reason. The accelerator pumps are prone to failing which forces the engines to cough and subsequently backfire. And the fuel bowl sitting above the carb doesn't help either as that simply feeds the fire. Had a pair of Lincoln Teapots on a dual quad setup on the dyno yesterday and with the accelerator pumps not working optimally, there was that dreaded cough and a backfire. And then a small internal carb fire which is easily extinguished simply because it's seen. With an air cleaner in place, the fire simply isn't seen and the inside of the carb gets toasted rather quickly.

    '55 210 w/ '62 327, WCFB's on a Vette manifold.
Kind of traditional for a mid-'60's build.

  28. If 56-58 engines are considered traditional, then yeah, they're traditional. I'm running them on my 57 Pontiac engine [Carter AFBs] on an old Offy manifold...going in my 34 ford.

love the look of a square pair--especially on a solid lifter 283/327--can be made to run well with the WCFB's
