Look for a pair of corvair buckets. Look very similar to 60s impala buckets at give away prices. Had a pair given to me at a swap meet because they didnt want to load them at the end of the day. What a cool car!!!
Great find. Love the huge bumper guards... Some guys have all the luck. There's a '63 Corvair for sale in town, a 4dr. It is a complete car but obviously spent time setting on it's belly in a field. Glass is all yellowed, interior sun worn, rockers rusty, floors, rusty, trunk floor solid but the welds on the back of the trunk are pretty nasty with rust. Whole car, 500 buck. Unfortunately I think it's beyond saving. Same lot has the '57 Chevy Handyman setting in it. I posted it on the Long roof thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8361686&postcount=2504
Yes, it can look ok. You need to go with a dark color with it. That car you are thinking of was a way's back. Sold yer soul to debbile for this tri (!) fecta.
I 'think' that Zarbtime is referring to the Trim/Paint Tag when he asks about the 'CL' number. All Nomad bodies were manufactured in Cleveland and have a CL number listed as "Body CL ####". They were then sent out to the various plants around the country for final assembly and then received their VIN Tag. Here's a pic of another '57 Nomad with those factory bumper guards taken at the Nomad Convention in Sedona, 2006. Mike T.
Not sure about this but maybe they just 'bolt-on' to a regular production bumper. If so, just take them off and either sell them or use them as trading material. Mike T.
Those bumper guards are just the thing to break your grille bar if you bump or get bumped in the front. The guards should just bolt on.
The bumper guards are bolted on with a plate on the back, there aren't any holes drilled in the bumper, they come off pretty easy. They usually leave an outline where the chrome fades though.
Put Sea Foam in the gas. It will help lube the valves. Throw up a new pix every now and then. Especially the pic that has 'for sale ' under it.
Check your fuel tank for old gas and varnish before use...Get all that old crap out or just buy a new one...I use Acetone and rinse them out... Don't risk bent push-rods from sticking valves caused by the varnish coming from the old gas in your tank...!
Don't be too quick to throw that old front bumper in the scrap pile, it looks to be the rarer one piece variety.
Is the '55 on the back burner now? I was hoping to see it at the Ventura Nationals this year. BTW, nice score.
Clean 'em up, drive and enjoy em' !!!!!!!!!!!!! Great find !!!!!!!! What was said above...poke around the place,....you just may find the seats !! 4TTRUK
