Early Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll.LaterElvis was soso.I don't think he would be remembered as fondly as he is if he was still around.Have you ever gone to the county fair and listened to these old rock and roll singers?

One thing about it, Elvis Costello and all the rest of the rock bands wouldn't exist today if Elvis Presley hadn't succeeded. Happy birthday to the King!

Say what you want...Elvis Presly was a professional and extremely popular entertainer in his day. He had what it takes to get up there and...entertain. Early on, he was the first mainstream vocal artist to bring the fun/cool black music and style to the whitebread masses. He paved the road for many other musical artists...and the rest is history. Was he a perfect person?...of course not...he had good and bad points just like the rest of us. And granted, he starred in some movies that are considered silly by some. But to repeat stupid hearsay or to offhandedly dismiss his talent is ignorant. He could be very generous to others. And he sang many popular songs. He recorded a lot of different types of music over the years...rock and roll, ballads, even gospel hymns...something for almost everybody. Imo, he had a beautiful voice, and did a damn good job, and deserves respect for that. My 2 pennies.

Lots of disrespect going on here towards one of the most famous men who ever lived, and arguably the most influential entertainer that ever walked the face of the planet.
To quote John Lennon directly; "before Elvis there was nothing".
Happy birthday Elvis, 35 years dead still going strong.

  22. Amen brother....

Ill take Elvis over ANY of the God awful "entertainers" they call "artists" these days. All studio effects, computer enhanced voices and taped/mimed "live" shows - fuck that.

i loved Elvis's early material - esp the early Sun Sessions. Pure hilbilly rockabilly and raw talent/energy - priceless.

The man had amazing talent but was no businessman and was taken advantage of when he was green in the biz by we all know who.

The first 2 or 3 comments always determine the direction a thread will go, whether negative or positive.. then people will begin to dick ride one another

It's lack of respect. The only good comes from adding more to the 'ignore list'.

Most every entertainer has folks who are critical of them.
My list of past and current so called entertainers that I disapprove of is L O N G :) but Elvis is not one of them. I was 8 - 9 years old when Elvis struck it BIG. He was the K I N G . Of course, some of the movies he made are now considered silly ... but they did what they were supposed to do ... MAKE MONEY.

Most here ... just wish they had the life he had until his death. MONEY, CARS, pretty women ... and I believe that a good bit of the negative comments on here come from jealousy

    Happy Birthday
and RIP ... Elvis Pressley ... The KING of Rock and Roll :D :D

Don't ever make amazing accomplishments or else a bunch of people who shouldn't will mock your existence. Seriously, I don't even like Elvis but come on even if you don't like him his life was pretty awesome?. Wouldn't you rather be Elvis than you? It would be nice to be Elvis. Sure there was the fat and drugs etc. but go look in the mirror. Wait, what was I saying?

That's funny, I didn't even know it was his birthday but yesterday when I was searching old pictures of '59s I found this cool picture of E sitting shotgun in a biscayne police car.

Always liked Elvis - hey, he bought his mother a Cadillac; something I wished I could do. Made it to Graceland and his birthplace in Tupelo back in '06; nice surprise was a recording played when we walked into Graceland of Elvis, his mother and father all singing together. I never knew Gladys and Vernon had such good voices! As far as the movies go, well... Viva Las Vegas with Ann-Margret is my favorite since it's the one time he had a leading lady with as much charisma as he had - She could look him in the eye as if to say "Elvis who?" Just wish they had made more movies together.
