Shoebox - 51 Grill or 50 Grill - Which do you like better

definitely '49. I even have a '49 grille on my '50

I have a 50 so you already know my pick ! I also have a good Merc grill that I might use as well .
Go with the 50 !

I got a 50 but a 49 grill is the shit. Then a 50 and I don't now about a 51 sorry but not feeling that one.... If I had a 51 I would put a desoto grill cuz u got the hood working in yr favor.....

This is exactly what I was thinking. I like the balance and symmetry of the '51 the most. You really can't go wrong with any 49-50-51 grille. I probably see a 51 the least.

No one remember the guy from japan with the model A headlight bucket. I think its cool.

 

This one was tough for me....I do like 49/50, but you see a lot of them. And the reason I voted 51 was because they're just different

 

Although I like both grills, I vote for '50

 

51 for the reasons previously stated...

'traditionally' the hoods were straightened across the bottom for customs, 51 style

 

There are alot of great responses and I am just as torn as ever about what to use! I'm thinking about just doing both up and changing out the front ends every couple of years that way I have the best of both worlds.

49, definately !! But, I'm prejudiced......

 

EVERYONE makes theirs a 50...do the 51. I personally like the 51 better anyway...

 

It semi surprises me how many change the grill to something completely different, I reckon they are awesome how they are. But good idea too keep 2 and do a swap every now and then.

 

I think the 49 and 50 single bullet looks ok nowadays; but I have always preferred the '51's grill and the '49-50's tail lights. Traditionally, the first modification many folks did in the fifties and early sixties to a 49 or 50 Ford was to remove the single bullet and bar, and convert it to an un-notched hood and upper bar, ala '51 style. Even J.C.Whitney sold patch kits for the 49-50 Ford's hoods/upper bars back then. I always liked a '54 Pontiac or '54 Chevy grill with extra teeth in the grill opening of a '51 Ford.

 

I voted for the 51, if it's to be a custom, I like'em with the bullets removed.

 

I have 51 an 50 like the 50 better dont know why but I just do

not a fan of either ford grills, actually tired of seeing all these chopped shoeboxes being built these days that are basically stock otherwise!!!.....if you REALLY don't want to do a custom grill shell with custom grill,i agree with the other guy, do a 51 meteor grill.....

 

I voted '50, but the '49 is better, because of the signals in the end of the spears.

Both the '49 and '50 capture the "airplane prop" look look that the designer was going for in the first place.

 

I totally agree I'm sick of this new fad of roof chop and air bags and that's it, no Frenched headlights no custom grille no custom trim no custom tail lights no shaved door handles its weird to me, but yeah at least go a meteor grille
