Hi all. I'm planning to head over for Viva and the Round Up next year. I need to know what events / visits surrounding the 2 events I NEED to get to. Just trying to plan my itinerary with family in tow. I want to make the most of these 2 events but with limited time, also fit in some sight seeing with the family. Is there anything prior to the Thursday at Las Vegas that I shouldn't miss? Anything prior to Friday in Austin I need to get to? Anything happening in Austin at the end of the weekend like a final gig that is worth staying for? I can fill in the gaps once I have some flights and accomodation booked but your help in planning the crucial dates would be much appreciated. Thanks, Pete
Hot rods are arriving from all over all week and there's tons of stuff see see in Austin. Friday night on Congress ave is alive with rods and partyers. Bands and music in every cafe/bar, no rowdiness to speak off, lots of families. Suggest ya line up a hotel today. Saturday is the big car show day, Sunday it's shutting down and cars are leaving. Traffic is a nightmare but thousands of rods and good lookin' women (not that that's a factor for me and you). I've sent you a message offering more info if you'd like some.
6th street in austin is a 'happening' - just to say you were there is big.....sometimes in the local parks, there are concerts...check with the austin city chamber of commerce and see what they have to say....
You could cruise route 66 from Oklahoma to AZ.. between shows!! Lots of cool stuff to site see on ol' 66!!!
I personally have more fun Friday and Saturday night for LSRU, plenty of family fun up and down Congress.
Vegas. The town never goes to sleep. As far as VLV, the party begins on Thursday - goes through Monday early a.m. All of Vegas has museums , shows, & places to eat. Between the two towns you will have plenty activity . Cheers
there are tons of garage tours and cruises before the roundup... parties all weekend , enjoy the downtime and sleep you'll need it . see you in austin
These are the kinds of things I was looking for info on. I've booked my flights now so I guess I'll fit in whatever fits in and if I miss something..so be it. Thanks for the replies.
Pete, haven't been to either event but been to both cities, Vegas is cheap, accommodation in one of the big casinos is the go, plenty of family stuff, take a trip to Hoover dam, well worth it. Austin is brilliant, head to city lake, go for tour of the state congress building, head to the continental club after dark, eat a chicken fried steak! Pm Blake, he'll give ya a heads up. I was planning on contacting Blake closer to the date. I've also visited both cities but it was a long time ago ('95). Plans have changed a bit. The family decided that tagging along on my hot rod folly may not be the best way to spend our money nor might it be much fun so I'm flying solo now. Makes it a bit easier for me to do stuff at short notice. Got a room booked in Vegas but still have to tee up Austin.
Hi, Hopefully my question fits here but I couldn`t find any better LSR 2013 thread.. After dreaming of this visit for several years I finally booked my flights, meaning that I´ll be there in LSR 2013. I have some "vouchers" for the Hilton hotels so my question is simple. Is there some particular Hilton in Austin that I should choose if I´m targeting to be "where the LSR action is?? Does the Austin Speed Shop have "open doors" during the LSR weekend or is it by invitation only? See you in LSR. -jupe-
