Yet Another American graffiti question

I have to pondered the rare sparking tire... Then I remember reading about them breaking axles on the 55 during the drag race scene the sparks may have been a precursor to that event?? or that was the drag race they broke the axle on?? Ahh I do love the uncertainty

The stunt driver dropped a lite cigarette. Those are embers, not sparks.

 

I watched an interview with Harrison Ford. He said the day that they shot that scene the 55 had a flat from a nail. They had limited time to get the shots they needed for that day so they put a couple of extra screws in the tire to hold the nail in for the shot.
