Went to pop the cap on this Ronco Mag I've had for a few years.. Thought the high tension lead ran thru a brass rod up from the body into the cap contact spring on these Mags.. this one seems to have a plastic/ vinyl covered soft lead from the body/secondary winding going into the cap.. So far it doesn't want to pull out of the cap with gentle pressure and I really don't want to break it.. not sure what the trick is to get this to release ? Any Ideas... Thanks for the help ! -Dave
It's hard to tell from a picture... I believe it should just pull out? At least mine does... Mine is like a little plug wire with a brass cap on it, maybe the brass contact has corroded together? If you have a local expert, I'd have them take a look before breaking something. From what I remember, that lead goes directly to the coil, and if you break it you replace the coil... which is a couple hundred bucks.
Thanks for the help and warnings.. I'm guessing corrosion.. but again its just guessing.. Time for a service....
Not to knock anyone else's experience but I'll never send anything to Hunt mags. It's old news but I got seriously ripped off by Roger of the modern "Hunt Magnetos", this included a six month wait,a cobbled base in place of a vintage part that was "in stock" that I paid well for, vintage parts stolen off the mag and charged for new items where I had suppiled higher quaility NOS parts for the rebuild and total cost of $1400 which is more than a brand new billet OHC. Good or bad just remember these guys have nothing to do with the original Joe Hunt Mags quality or reputation.... It's just another name that was bought out by a hack.
