I bought some GL4 80/90 and originally intended to fill it before I installed it. In retrospect it's probably better that I didn't because I may have mistakenly over filled it. So, when I do fill it, do I remove the plug on the upper passenger side of the trans and fill it until it starts to drain back out that same plug hole? How much fluid does an M22 take?

Yes remove that plug and pour in the 90W till you see it start to come out. I don't remember how much it holds but if you but to much just leave the plug off for a while till it drains off. Great transmission by the way.....

LOL, and maybe even close to the same as an M20...

Yeah, this is what I figured, and I'm glad it's that simple...didn't want to have to measure it.

don't fill it till it runs out the side..leave the level so you can just touch the oil in the hole with your pinky finger.
if its too full it can run out the front and oil the clutch.

    Damn, now I'm confused again...

So I'm guessing that the fill hole is at nearly the same level as the output shaft? Or maybe slightly below it?

Ballpark quart and a half. And yes...that plug, til it pours back out. Try Royal Purple SyncroMax. Good stuff.

    X2 on the pinky gauge.
Just checked my 68 chassis service manual and it says 1/2 below fill plug when cold.
