When my father was a kid, my grandfather was part owner of a wrecking yard in Los Angeles. As a kid, he would go to the wrecking yard with my grandfather and pull the emblems from the cars. This had to be between 1935-1940. He gave them to me about 30 years ago and have followed me with every move we made. After he passed away in 2001, I kept looking at these emblems and always wanted to do something with them. My wife and I finally came up with this. I spent a number of snowy days in the basement putting them together.

You've got some rare ones in that pile.

I jumped the gun! I thought the ones on the white sheet were cool --- The finished product is Awesome!

  8. You spent a couple of snowy days setting them on one of your wifes bedsheets? I don't get it. What's so creative about that?
It does look like you have alot of valuable ones in there for sure.
Whoops, I jumped the gun as well--Much better! Sorry

I was almost bummed after I was finished. It brought a lot of good memories of my father back.

It wouldn't let me upload all of them at once so I had to do it in a couple shots.

Very cool. I don't suppose you'd be interested in selling that Stephens badge? I understand they are family heirlooms.

Wow...quite a collection. I know they were your grandpa's, and I'd never disrespect what they mean to you...but I gotta say...

Let's see...an average of $50 for each item? Times what looks to be about 400 pieces?

    That's $20,000 !!!

Of course, the memories they hold...priceless. And they look great how you displayed them.

I mounted probably about 1/3 of them. Still have a number of them in the running board tool chest. I went through them and picked the best of them for the boxes.

I was actually e-mailing with the people at the Kissel Museum in Wisconsin. I guess that there are only 125 cars in existence. He offered $200 for that emblem. I looked up how to restore some of the other ones and found a place that actually does restoration. Most of the others are worth anywhere from $15-50 depending.
    As for me, they're priceless.

Don't ever sell them, man. Some things can't be bought. Love what you did with them!

The display is outstanding. That would have been a dream come true for me as a kid. Your father was a lucky guy and so are you. Well done!

When I was a young'un we did the same thing.....but we usually 'popped' them off cars unless they happened to come off easily. So, did he remove them or just knock them off? I know you don't plan to sell them but if the pegs on back are broken off then that hurts the value a lot.

Awesome collection you've got there. Reminds me of a conversation I had with a guy once. He told me he worked for a scrap yard, and how they crushed some of those old cars that had the chrome pipes coming out of the hood sides! Those were the days.

Both of my sons also did quite the same thing when I took them to the yards. But I don't know what they ever did with the old emblems.

Your displays are fantastic! Thanks for the memories!

Many thanks to your father for collecting them, to your grandfather for letting him do that, and to you for preserving them.

Restore some of them? I dunno, would look replica.....
