Subscribed. Have done the route more times than I can count. Haven't done the Illinois section yet. Like all of old-timers say... you shoulda seen it then... My time frame was 70s through the 90s. What a great road.

Can you tell me more about this spot? As in, is this what remains of Meadow Gold? Just a monument of what use to be here.

Little driveway tunnel off of 66 between catoosa and tulsa.
And since Big Blue is getting all the love- here's a shot of my little one enjoying her first stop on the Mother Road. She signed her name in the upstairs portion of Blue's head. She still talks about it and we are hoping to drive a little further on the road this summer, in the 46.

Just last week a new bronze lifescape of a Model T & horse drawn wagon with oil barrels was unveiled on Rt 66 in Tulsa. Sorry I don't have pics yet. It is larger than lifesize, and the "father of Rt 66" Cyrus Avery is one of the figures. Cyrus was not a Tulsa native, but relocated to Tulsa, and is credited to be the father of Rt 66. He was a Tulsa county commissioner, businessman, etc. Just Google it.

Lots of good Rt 66 stuff in Oklahoma!

There's still a neat stretch of the old road through the Cajon Pass between Bartow and San Bernardino in Southern California.

this is also used on the drive to and from Bonneville

The four-banger club has their annual hill-climb event here....

great stretch of road for train watching, too. This pass has been used by the Santa Fe, Union Pacific and Southern Pacific for 125 years...this photo is from last April

It's a great road-trip to follow along near where the Rte 66 ran.
Elk City in West Oklahoma has a great museum that is well worth a special visit.
    Good times

  19. An awesome thread! I touched a little of 66 just outside of OKC in 2005. Went to a diner with a Caddy and a cop cruiser concreted into the ground. Had a feed of fried chicken steaks, later that year had a heart attack! :D

An old gas station in Arizona, can't recall where just now. It was taken during our three week Rt 66 tour in 2009 in our '35 sedan.

I'd love to see Amarillo, Gallup New Mexico, Flagstaff Arizona, don't forget Winona, Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino :D

Seriously though, it's been a dream of mine to take a tour of historic Route 66. Hopefully, one day I'll make it a reality. Love to see these pics!

Sunday after we left the L.A.Roadster Show this year, we went for a short drive along Route66 and ended up in Needles. Will get my wife to post some photos when she gets back from Thailand. Enjoyed murals on walls of buildings in Needles.

  28. Don't know where that Meadow Gold picture was taken, but my mother and my stepdad both worked for and retired from Meadow Gold. I worked there in the summers while going to college. My wife and I traveled a lot of the route in 91 in our old 55 Chevy car on the way to Pomona for a GG show. great trip and saw a lot of neat stuff. Thanks for starting this thread.
    Later,
    Dick

  30. Just looking at all the places I've been along the "Mother Road" makes me yearn for another trip before it all turns to dust.
