what is a hot rod?

that is my question. is a hot rod a 30 to 32 ford? in my mind any car that is completly modified from its original form is a hot rod. if a car has an upgraded engine, transmission, brakes , body and paint its a hot rod! especially if the date of manufacture is before say 1966? by upgrades i mean faster quicker and prettier than original. what say you my fellow hamber's?

well this was sparked by my 28 year old barber that feels that a hot rod must be built before 1945. after that it's a custom. i do not need help from dr phil or jim carry or my alliance money back. my only point is that a car or truck that is completly modified from stock to go faster and look cooler and stop better is a hot rod. thats it simple as can be hot rods are fast, light, and scary. i wish wally parks was here to see this he would be discusted.
