Forgot to introduce myself when I first joined. Anaheim here, trying to turn an abandoned 1928 chevy coupe into a basic roadster. Needs just about everything! Went to my first L.A.R.S. in Pomona on Father's day, WOW!
A little more of my background: born in 1961 in LA. My dad was a great mechanic, had his own shop for several years, worked at other shops and new car dealers, retired from the Bureau of Auto Repair. So I should have learned a ton from him right? WRONG! My mom divorced him when I was a baby and moved us to Alaska, so I never grew up near him. I came back to Cali at age 19. I arrived in SF and decided to drive to Long beach to "find" my dad (didnt have his address or phone #!). My car broke down within an hour and I slept in it overnight. I called 411 the next day and asked information for my dad. There were 2 similar listings and I said "connect me to the first one". A man answered and I said I was looking for my dad........... He said he was my dad! I said the good news is I am coming to see you, the bad news is my car is dead off highway 101. He said dont move, I'm on my way!! I sat in my car watching car after car go by, I had no idea what my dad looked like or what kind of car he had. Finally an old station wagon pulls up with a family of 4. Its my dad and his new young family (duh) he sent his family home and he stayed behind, being sunday we both slept in the car and walked to the parts store monday morning. fixed the car and drove to long beach together. Later I said "dad, with your knowledge how come you dont build a nice hot rod or something? He said "I work on cars all day, i dont want to work on cars when I get home.....
Cool story. My dad couldn't turn a wrench, but he always bought the coolest cars he could find. Thankfully my oldest brother was a talented mechanic and he taught myself and my younger brother well. Welcome to the HAMB from COLORADO
