Wow! somehow I have missed this. Thanks sooo much for the post and the history lesson. Rik, your posts are a treasure indeed. Jerry
FWIW, this early Barris car has been in North Texas for several years. The photo is from the guy that brought it back from CA to KCMO in the fifties. Blew the Cad motor and sold it to a friend of mine here in TX. Carson padded top, documented Von Dutch striping, the real deal. Most recently was seen in Hot Rod Deluxe (Thrifty Drug Car Show), bottom of the photo. Take care, K
This wasn't this the Phaeton Earl Shieb's son owned later on in the 70's -80's, it sported flames then?
~The white "chopped" 1956 Chevy Convertible sitting behind the Corvette is "The Gypsy", a very famous kustom from Cleveland, Ohio in the 50's.
Gary Birns has shared some really great mid/late 1950's Custom Car photos with the Custom Car Photo Archive in the past. Yesterday he send me an old video which a friend of Gary took in 1961-62 at an mid-west Custom Car show. The footage is not the best quality, but it is very interesting. It has some really nice shots of Ed Roth's Beatnik Bandit showing some of the automatic features of the car. The movie aslso shows a few minutes of drag racing and at the end it shows Gary Birns own 1959 T-Bird "the Playboy's Chariot". <object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UGhyLbBqMqA?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UGhyLbBqMqA?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Great, great footage from my favourite period in time. And that has to be the best damn elevator music I ever done heard! Paul
*WOW, When I originally sent these photos to "Rikster" I never thought that they would have been viewed over 20,000 times!
