Hey All - after years of being told, and now being convinced, that I have the wrong wheels on my 61 Coupe de Ville (especially amongst THIS crowd - geeeezus), I would like to see some examples or suggestions of what YOU, the grumpy, smart ass, but most always helpful HAMB Nation would choose. There is ONE RULE - NO STOCK CAPS!! Anything else goes - wires and wide whites, whatever. Lemme hear from you, even if you just haven't had a chance to flame someone today~~~~ Kenny
Beautiful car and you are right, it needs different wheels and whitewalls. My vote would be for chrome reverse wheels and narrow whitewalls. It is just a personal thing with me but I think cars like yours and others, like 50 Mercs need whitewalls to go with the classiness of the cars. Don
Depends on the look you want, but Astros or Radirs with skinny whites would be typical for a 60s era custom. Chrome reverse would work too. You could probably get away with 16" or 17" rims on a car that big, if you can find tires that don't make it look obvious they're modern stuff.
Saw this on here a little while back. I think the '61 polished caps looks killer. I think this is the route I am gonna go on my '64. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1395964&d=1312869380
Thank you Gentlemen......and iwannaflabby. I'm definitely leaning towards the spokes and med to wide whites.....
Yes, polished and with the bullet centers like the one posted above. That car also has the perfect amount of whitewall. You don't want a 1950's looking super wide white, but you don't want a Pep Boys looking tire either. Those caps require 61-62 Cadillac rims specifically, they're too deep for anything else. Not only do they look stunning and are period correct, but they're actually pretty cheap. And "good on you" for deciding to swap out your current wheels.
