Use pan, short water pump and accessories, as in '91 or so Cougar/T-Bird.

In addition, the frame's front crossmember needs to be lowered (going with MII type suspension, or something similar. An alternative would be to drop the buggy-spring crossmember drastically, which would necessitate a deeply dropped axle in order for the driver to see over the front fenders. :))

Without doing the above, I believe that the firewall must be recessed.

I can tell you for certain that a 302 will NOT fit in a '40 without major surgery, becaue I used to have one. Deep recess in firewall, trans tunnel. Even more on a '36.

  7. I've seen this setup in a thirty four coupe, but I think it had MT II front suspension.

I have a 37 I am placing a 351 in using the 95 mustang short water pump , must use the same timing cover. This is a reverse rotation with the serpentine but you can get a pump with correct rotation to run V belts .

This combo will shorten a SBF to the same specs as a SBC .

I have a 302 in my '40 with the original uncut firewall and long water pump. Just moved the radiator forward maybe an inch or so (very easy). It's not a '36 though.....
