Here's some coverage of this past weekend's 2012 Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival in Auburn, Indiana... three makes with deep, historic ties to American racing and to the roots of hot rodding. ACD Festival 2012 | Mac's Motor City Garage A few sample images from the big photo gallery....please help yourself to all the photos.
Thanks for the great shots! You got all the cars that I somehow failed to see Saturday on the main fairgrounds.
We did this last year and it was just fabulous. Met a couple of Hambers there too. Picked up some parts for my Hupmobile two blocks down from the ACD Museum too. The ACD only swap meet was nirvana. Nice to see real Auburn Speedsters too. This was a weekend we will never forget and an absolute must do. Thanks so much for posting photos Bill....
Thanks for the pictures. Always a great show. Missed it this year but have been attending for several years mixing visit w/ family & friends with the show.
Beautiful automobiles! Those were built in a day when you had to order exactly what you wanted and they built it up for you. There is a Boat Tail roadster in this area too. Normbc9
Here's a second complete feature gallery from the 2012 ACD Festival, please enjoy: More from the 2012 ACD Festival |Mac's Motor City Garage.com here are a few sample photos, please take and share as you please...
Great link, Thank you! I love those Cords, but I have a question... What is the difference between the Phaeton and the Cabriolets??? I'm not seeing how they differ? Josh
As a complement to the ACD Festival photo essays, here's a bonus feature: a Tony Matthews cutaway painting of the Auburn 851 Supercharged Boattail Speedster. Beautiful stuff, check it out. Tony Matthews Cutaway: Auburn 851 | Mac's Motor City Garage ...If you're familiar with Tony's work, you know he usually does highly sophisticated F1 cars and suchlike. Here's the Auburn Speedster in a whole new light.
Bill is right - the Cabriolet/Convertible - often incorrectly referred to as a 'Sportsman' - a designation never given to it by the factory - is a two seater. The Phaeton has a rear seat in the passenger compartment.... Cabriolet: Phaeton:
Good point. I don't know where the Sportsman name originated, must be an interesting tale. Factory lit I've seen seems to use Convertible or Convertible Coupe, but all the placards for these cars at the ACD Festival this year used Cabriolet. I ran with that for this story, figuring they must know something... .
You should see one illuminated - the first electroluminescent gauges, but then Cord had so many firsts that it would take too long to list them....
You're quite welcome. Thanks for viewing the website. ACD Festival 2012 | Mac's Motor City Garage I wish I had thought to get some photos of the hot rodders' all-time favorite dash, the Auburn. I'll try to remember next time.
Pretty sure that's my father checking out (maybe judging) this L-29 Cord. He just sold his last Spring at Amelia Island.
