I've searched but kind find the info I'm after so I'll throw this out there, I'm aware that model a roadsters from 1928-29 have a different hood from 1930-31 models, but what exactly is the difference? I've got a 28 with a 32 grill and can pickup a 30 hood real cheap and am kinda hoping it may be easy enough to get it to fit. Ideas?
If my memory, severs the 30-31 hood is longer than the 28-29. The body line might be wider on the 30-31.
There are three hoods in the Model A line. Smooth top panels: 1928-29 Open cars except Cabriolet, Closed Cars except Fordors, and Commercial/trucks. Top panels with bead lines: 1)1928-29 Fordor and Cabriolet 2)1930-31 Open Cars, CLosed Cars and Commercial/trucks. None of them interchange.
We did an experiment on this the other day at the shop. One of the largest differences outside of what pasadenahotrod mentioned is length's. My buddy Shane mentioned that the length of the hood almost directly correlates with the year. I didn't believe him so I set out to measure all the early Ford hoods I could find in the shop. 1928-1929 - measured 28 1/2" long approx. 1930-1931 - measured 30" long 1932 - measured 32" long N8
