So I get to spend the day with Big Daddy Don Garlits- what would you ask him?

For work, I "have" to fly out to Florida and spend part of the day with Don Garlits, I am also supposed to have dinner with him as well- so I thought I would make this fun for everyone

Anyone who ever wanted to ask him anything, let me know- I will make a list and see how many questions I can get answered for all of you....

I'd like to know what the Martians think.

 

I'd like o know how he managed to save all of those awesome dragsters and engines over the years. I have always had to sell some stuff to get better stuff, but "Big" managed to save it all. How so?????

I understand that he is an expert on Columbia rears and strengthening/rebuilding them. Could you download that part of his brain to a disc??
Actually, I'd like to know everything that's in here...I've been fascinated by him as an innovator since I first encounterd stuff in my first rod magazines about 1960 when I was 12 or so.
And...did he ever mess with Hydrazine??
And please convey my sympathy and prayers for all the medical trouble involving him and his wife recently reported on here.

Well I would like to know if with all the changes to drag racing over the past few decades ( movement to pros and big dollar teams) is he still having as much fun as he used to have?

 

Sure wish we could get him to sign up here!!...

 

If he was able to start his life over today and with what he knows now ! what is that one thing he would do over ?

One of the questions I will definitely ask him is if he is aware of the HAMB!

Ask him to put my brother-in-laws VW dragster in a prime spot in the museum. They just shipped it back there a few weeks ago.

Does he remember me freaking out when he divided his dragster at LIONS and took off the front of his toe? I was 12 and thought I'd just lost one of my idols right in front of my eyes.

ask him if he recalls my mom her maiden name was Nancy Hilbish my mom and Pat were friends she told me she took a ride with Don and he started chasing an ambulance she thought he was crazy mom if you only knew

Did he ever throw anything away? If you've ever been to the museum it doen't look like he did.

 

Most of his cars were updated year to year;i.e. Swamp Rat VI became Swamp Rat VII, ect. So some are recreations.
