    Benno,
I just looked at the rules for "Supercharged Gas Coupes/Sedans" in the 73 rulebook.

    Two classes in Comp Eliminator:

    AA--5.00-7.99 lbs./cu. in.
    BB--8.00 up lbs./cu.in.

It says same rules as Gas Coupes/Sedans (Modified Eliminator) except inner fender panels are optional.
It does say in ^^ that fiberglass bodies are acceptible in the blower classes. It's all in the Gas Rules thread.

  3. I'll have to check that out.

I have visited your website many times over the years Jim, even used it to win a friendly debate with Flyin Phil Elliott about solid front axles in AHRA MP cars once. An excellent resource. Thanks for taking the trouble to put that up and maintain it.

I've already posted the photo that shows the end (see post #39), heres the beginning. OGM winning little eliminator at the 1960 US nationals. September 1960. Compare this to the pic of his car on the R&C cover early in 1960 posted earlier on this thread. Benno, note the infamous delco coil-overs.

Have you met the new owner of the track at Sikeston? He has a beautiful Willys. He knows what gassers are all about.

  11. No I haven't but that is some good news. I'm originally 20 miles from there but can't seem to coordinate my trips home with the extra days to get to the track. I went there a couple years ago but they were just cleaning things up and scraping the track.

  12. That's cool...2 other guys that know where Sikeston is....and that there is a drag strip there. (g'ma still lives there)

  14. Delco shocks, for some reason in my mind they are always Monroe.

I am going to have to dig the progression pics of this coupe out. It only stayed way up there ( thins being way up theree) for a season or two then he started dropping it back down. Ya know that might be a fun way to build one, pick one out ya like, Groeges for example, build it like he did in the begining anfd run it a season, then lift it with the coil overs for how eever many saesons that he ran it that way then begine to modify the suspension and the body like e e did until he disposed of it for Mustang. Buy then you would be tired of it and have a real nice gas coupe to sell to someone else.

That would fund your Big John Willys, you could run it plain red one season, then candy the next etc. That could pretty much keep a lot of us going the rest of our lives and we would be in a different car each year.

Get the video "The gasser files" by the jackson brothers. In fact, any of their videos, as they are a great veiw into the past. The "gasser files covers the gasser scene from the late 50's to the 86 nostalgia drags at Baylands Raceway in Fremont.

  16. I give anyone credit for getting out on the track and running hard. These old cars aren't aerodynamic nose up or down and most run way faster than the factory ever meant them to. To many rules force people out and to few will let anything in, choose your poison.[/QUOTE]
    I agree.

You might also notice how George cut the front fenders away on his '33 Willys! Another rule violation that he got away with for many years until someone protested and NHRA made him add that portion back. Later pictures of his '33 show sheet aluminum rivetted to the leading edge of his front fenders to get the original line back.
The big guys always cheated, and the only time they were forced to abide by the rules was if another bigtime racer complained. Most the little guys were too busy having fun, or too scared to protest them.
