smoth running 331 hemi and 4speed what should I offer?

this motor is complete and running in car, has a chrysler 4 speed manual truck transmision. herd it run and drive sounds good no smoke. what should I offer? complete carb to yoke.

i just found a 1954 dodge 2 ton dump truck running and driving on cl for $1200 with a firedome hemi .he says it runs good with no smoke so i'm thinking about buying it just for the engine .

be a little honest - offer $850 - maybe he'll take it....and then maybe he'll mention the 32' in the barn he hasn't touched in years....

 

You sure it's a DeSoto? should be a Chr truck hemi, they look a lot like a DeSoto. Check the use code in front of the valley cover & post. If it's a short tail '54 331 Chr hemi & runs good it's @ least 1,000-1200 or so for a nonrunning core, the fact that its running increases that if it's not smoking & decent comp.

IF it's a DeSoto it would be a 330(or some other DeSoto CID), not a 331. The Desotos aren't as valuable as the Chrs., a core would probably be $500 to 7 or $800. Performance parts are harder to find. If it seems to be in good running condition I'd guess 2K.
