im looking for some ideas for tailights for my 30/31 coupe. i know most people run 50 pontiac or teardrops but im looking for some other ideas. ive been thinking about running 40 ford tailights. thoughts and suggestions are welcome. if you include photos that would be great. thanks bubba
41 Chevy taillights - I think they may be the same to 48 - were popular back in the day. 48 Ford taillights were popular as well. Both styles are bolt-on. Want something really different? Take a look at the Harley Tombstone taillights. Harley's also had a 39 looking teardrop taillight that is a touch larger - and probably brighter - than the gennie 39's although I haven't seen them in Harley catalogs for a while. 49-51 Lincoln taillights are round and have a tri-bar - similar to the Lucas gold chainer headlight - if I remember right.
This is obviously not a" mensa site" I don`t think they have near as much fun as we do.I get no headaches,my brain is too relaxed. Jerry
i always though 51 chev lights would be cool on the right car. also, have you considered old vw lights, like off a beetle, circa 1949? you can get these repro fairly cheaply i think, and i think with the right kind of treatment, theyd look sweet and have people scratching their heads. everybody knocks veedubs but i think they are cool, itd be cool to catch the look on some douche's face when he complimented your lights and you told him they were from a fuckin bug. just my 2 cents worth of rant.
Hello I'm using early cadilac tear drop tail lights flipped upside down and I dont think anyone has tried this ever before. I will post pics once complete. Cheers Chico
A popular light traditionally, yet overlooked lately is the '41 Oldsmobile . It's square shape fits in to the rear panel of As and B's well.
I'm running 53 Buick's on my C-dan. They look like some tits that are just crying out for some paisties!
I had 48 ford tailights on my Coupe. Gonna run 52 Buick Special taillights in my truck. Be different and run the 40's
I was going to use the 50 Pontiacs on my sedan then realized that they would point down if I mounted them low like I wanted. I decided to do something different. I put Model A tail lights on my Model A. Whod a thunk it! I used the stock fender stands and cut them down and used the mounting flange from them and welded them to the lower panel just far enough from the body to get a 1/2" long bolt in there to mount them. I like the look, and it goes with the A Headlights, Grill shell, and gage cluster that I am using. I dont know if ths would work on a coupe.
40 Ford tailights are not flat........they are curved and will not sit down on a flat surface.... As a matter of fact........the inner fender brace piece that goes on the fender comes in R or L ......because of the curve. How about a 54 Chevrolet tailight......different, visible and flat.......they even have custom lenses for them....... .
